Sanitation Crew Leader

Summary

Responsible for coordinating and supervising the performance of a Brush and Bulky Goods collection crew to ensure timely completion of jobs/ routes, assign jobs to team members, and/ or act as a back-up driver for all BBG collection routes and handles customer service requirements. Perform physically demanding duties during strenuous weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support Brush and Bulky Goods collection crews by providing training, equipment and resources as needed.

  • Drive Knuckle Boom vehicle and provide daily supervision and guidance to assigned route crew.

  • Drive other Brush and Bulky Goods collection vehicles such as the Rear Loader or Long Truck as a back-up driver to cover down routes due to team member's leave of absence.

  • Ensure all team members are adequately trained to operate assigned equipment and perform job duties.

  • Provide customer service as required.

  • Complete daily route data sheet and/ or review other daily route data sheets to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of submitted documentation.

  • Assist Field Supervisor with additional duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1 year related experience in Brush and Bulky Collections operations.

  • Class A CDL Commercial Driver's License Certification in Long Truck, Rear Loader, and Knuckle Boom.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License

  • 3-5 years experience in Brush and Bulky Goods collection operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of vehicles

  • Considerable knowledge of relevant traffic laws

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, operation and servicing of trucks and related automotive equipment

  • Skill to operate controls for required equipment; with greater dexterity than an Equipment Operator I level

  • Ability to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment and materials

  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment

  • Ability to read and understand vehicle operator's manual

  • Ability to read and use city maps and documentation

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's license

  • Completion of a defensive driving course within six (6) months from date of hire.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
