Greens Workers perform routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance. Greens Workers operate small hand-powered equipment; operate light motorized equipment, and operate large motorized equipment, including mowers, tractors, loaders, trenchers, backhoes, trucks and other maintenance equipment.

Employees in this position are scheduled to work a non-traditional work schedule and flexible hours including weekend hours during the primary golf season. This position will work from approximately March through December with possible lay-off during the winter months based on operational needs.

$18.05 per hour

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Possession of a valid driver's license.
3. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

1. Knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape construction/maintenance work.
2. Working knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and power tools.
3. Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
4. Ability to follow oral and written directions.
5. Ability to earn and possess an Illinois Pesticides Operator license.
6. 2 years or more experience as greens worker.

Varies. Frequent weekend and night availability required.

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

1. Must be able to perform hard physical labor such as digging, shoveling, raking, and hand mowing.
2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
3. Must be able to ride or drive motorized mowing equipment and other golf course maintenance vehicles for long periods of time.
4. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
