POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Major and Planned Giving leads the Development Team during a time of rapid change and opportunity for public media. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies designed to engage and steward individual major donors and prospects in ways that encourage their substantial philanthropic investment in Twin Cities PBS. The Director provides strategic, well-formulated, and proactive fundraising approaches and is responsible for leading the successful achievement of personal, team, and unit fundraising attainment goals as established annually and based on emerging priorities and organizational needs. The Director works closely with the Director of Membership to identify strategies to grow philanthropic support during the lifetime of viewers and individual supporters. In addition, this individual manages a portfolio of high net-worth individuals to raise support for the organization's ambitious strategic plan initiatives, campaigns, capital needs, community-based work, and other important programmatic activities. Compensation: $125,000 to $140,000 annually (depending on qualifications) in addition to company provided benefits. Hybrid Work Environment: Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to onsite office three days per week. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Donor Cultivation (60% time)
- In collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer and CEO, develop and grow major individual giving programs that deepen and expand the existing donor base at all levels of giving, with special focus on cultivation and solicitation of major gifts ($10K+ minimum, with focus on gifts of $25K+) and planned gifts.
- Manage a portfolio of 80+ new and existing major donors, personally securing $1.0M or more in cash, pledges or blended commitments of outright and planned gifts annually.
- Communicate TPT's vision, priorities, and goals in a compelling way to grow the portfolio and expand funding.
- Identify, cultivate, and build a pipeline of new major donors and planned giving prospects, and lead stewardship efforts, meeting with donors and prospects on an ongoing basis.
- Create tailored pitches based on deep understanding of our mid and major donors, including events and presentations and materials focused on TPT programming, strategic vision and impact and that support any current or future capital campaigns.
- Oversee planned giving solicitations and agreements working with legal and planned giving experts.
Team Leadership (35% time)
- Lead, mentor, coach and evaluate a talented development team, and ensure the team maintains best practices and an understanding of the fundraising landscape including local, national, and international marketplace trends.
- As an active member of the Department Leaders Team, provide strategic vision for organization to engage our audiences and donors and connect them to our mission.
- Develop overarching strategies for growth and elevation of philanthropic success, working closely with fundraisers assigned to those units.
- Assist in the successful completion of department and team goals, which may exceed personal attainment goals annually.
- Work with colleagues on portfolio management and coordinated donor efforts for deeper donor engagement, while analyzing data and progress to continuously improve our major gift strategy and meet robust revenue goals.
- In close collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Team, create a regular cadence of donor and prospect stewardship and cultivation opportunities that align with and leverage other external communications and engagement with our corporate and foundation donor audiences.
- Collaborate with leadership in Institutional Giving, Membership and Revenue operations to create a coherent strategy for future revenue.
- Contribute to a culture of trust, teamwork, transparency, inclusion and efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, inspire, guide and develop team and staff members throughout their TPT careers.
- Oversee the hiring, staffing, evaluation, overall management and training of development team which includes major gift officers, mid-level gift officers, prospect researcher, planned giving officer and administrative staff.
- Coach and mentor team members through ambitious goals and support for professional development.
- Cultivate a fun, engaging, and balanced work environment.
Other duties as assigned (5% of time)
- Participate as an active member of the Philanthropic Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience
- Minimum seven (7) years of fundraising leadership experience with at least five (3) years of successful experience directly and regularly soliciting major and planned gifts.
- Strategic planning experience and skill, with ability to set a vision for the long term, translate the vision into clear goals and build a plan to achieve identified goals.
- History of successful capital and comprehensive campaign fundraising.
- Experience in preparing and conducting solicitations, including making qualification calls for major donors.
Preferred Experience
- Baccalaureate degree, CFRE and/or equivalent work experience, Juris Doctor a plus.
- Public speaking and meeting facilitation experience.
- Ability to grow and maintain strong authentic relationships with donors.
- Experience building a development operation and advising senior leadership on fundraising strategy.
- Passion for the mission of Twin Cities PBS.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Outstanding interpersonal skills; a high level of comfort with direct donor interaction, including discussions of personal and family finances.
- Knowledge of acceptable gifts policies and ethical fund development practices, as well as Minnesota law governing fund development and public charities.
- Ability to motivate and interact effectively with Board, volunteers, donors, and program staff at all levels.
- Experience preparing and reviewing written donor proposals, endowment agreements, and development of materials and strategies that support planned gift fundraising.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgment, and work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- Knowledge of Minneapolis/St. Paul philanthropic community specifically, and greater Minnesota secondarily.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising CRMs (Salesforce, Raisers Edge), and use of data and analytics to inform fundraising campaigns.
- Commitment to advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) priorities within the organization.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required by the work, for donor meetings and key convening and other events.
- A valid driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation.
