Position Summary:
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus is seeking passionate and dedicated teachers to join the Upward Bound Program. The teachers will be responsible for delivering effective and engaging learning instruction to high school students enrolled in the program. The teachers will facilitate skill development, foster academic growth, and provide valuable support to help students succeed in their educational pursuits.

The tentative dates for the Summer Academic Program of Upward Bound are June 9th - July 18th, 2025, with holiday on Independence Day (July 4th, 2025).

Classes will be held 4 days a week (M,T,Th,F) for 1.25 hours per day and will be located on the Embry-Riddle Prescott Campus.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with program objectives, incorporating engaging lesson plans and activities that cater to various learning styles and skill levels.

Assessment and Feedback: Develop and administer assessments, quizzes, and exams to evaluate students' comprehension and growth. Offer constructive feedback to guide their improvement and adapt instructional strategies accordingly.

Data Analysis: Utilize assessment data to identify trends and areas for improvement, adjusting teaching methods to address individual and collective learning needs effectively.

Instructional Excellence: Deliver interactive and motivating instruction, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Effectively convey complex concepts through real-world applications, enhancing students' understanding and problem-solving skills.

Individualized Support: Provide personalized assistance to students who require extra help, offering tutoring, clarification, and guidance to ensure their comprehension and progress in the subject.

Collaborative Approach: Collaborate with program coordinators, academic staff, and fellow teachers to align curriculum goals, promote interdisciplinary learning, and contribute to a cohesive educational experience.

Motivation and Inspiration: Cultivate students' interest and enthusiasm, encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a strong foundation for higher education.

Classroom Management: Establish a well-managed and respectful classroom environment that promotes active participation, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging among students.

CANVAS: Utilize the Canvas platform for assignments, grading, attendance tracking, and communication to enhance the virtual classroom experience, ensuring effective delivery of curriculum content and transparent student engagement.

Out-of-State Trip: Week 6th of the Upward Bound Program

You may be invited to join us on our 6th week as a volunteer chaperone. As part of the enriching experience offered by the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus, a trip to visit other colleges is organized during the sixth week of the program. This trip is designed to broaden participants' horizons, expose them to college campuses in an adjacent state, and provide hands-on learning opportunities that align with the program's educational objectives.

During the sixth week of the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus, volunteer chaperones are invited to accompany the program to supervise the participants. Chaperones are responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and engagement of program participants during all activities. They maintain adherence to schedules, provide guidance during interactions and discussions, and respond effectively to any emergent situations. Chaperones serve as supervisors of participants and point of contact for crisis management and policy enforcement throughout the trip.

The tentative dates for the final week trip are July 14th -19th 2025.

Compensation:

This is a stipend-based position with a compensation of $2,000 per 5-week high school level course taught. The tentative planned dates for the Summer Academic Program of Upward Bound are June 9th - July 18th, 2024

Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certification or credentials according to AZ state regulations or a bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in teaching high school students, preferably in college preparatory or enrichment programs.
  • Proficiency in subject-specific concepts corresponding to the educational level and discipline being taught and ability to communicate them effectively to students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and instructional skills.
  • Adaptability in catering to diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Enthusiasm for education, commitment to student success, and dedication to fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
