Job Summary

Under supervision the Emergency Trauma Technician provides ancillary support to both the nursing and medical staff within the Emergency Department. The Trauma Technician performs ECGs, wound irrigations, wound preparation/bandaging, CPR, inventory and secure patient valuables, patient transports, assist and obtain vital signs, track and monitor equipment maintenance, inventory and order supplies, assist in equipment set-up ie, suture trays, surgical trays, splints, c-spine immobilization, oxygen set-up, postmortem care, teaching patient crutch walking and cast care. Assists nursing and medical staff in other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • MA or CNA certification or EMT certification
  • At least 1 year of recent acute care or pre-hospital (EMT/paramedic) experience
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language and utilize medical terminology appropriately.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work.
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Familiar with principles of asepsis and hand hygiene.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Familiarity with cost containment and maintenance of quality of care for patient through environment, equipment and documentation.
  • Skills and knowledge to work with all department equipment, tools, IE, EKG, monitoring and diagnostic equipment, life support equipment/ambu-bags, gurneys, compressed air tanks, oxygen set-up, trays, packs with instruments, tongs, tubing, solutions, and supplies.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of patient appropriately.
  • Ability to communicate concisely to all co-workers and patients.

Department Overview

Emergency Medicine provide Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma care for more than 33 of California's 58 counties. UC Davis Health System is home to state-of-the-art emergency care for children. Our Pediatric Emergency Department features the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in inland Northern California (verified by the American College of Surgeons). From Portland to Fresno, from outside the Bay Area to Reno, no other hospital in inland Northern California has a Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center servicing approximately 70,000 patients each year. The Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis provides a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, 42 residents, and a total of 26 specialists of every medical and surgical specialty to treat critically ill and injured adults and children. Our team provides an extraordinary level of knowledge, skill and compassion to every patient we serve at our Level 1 Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion. The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive and efficient emergency care to patients in need of medical and surgical specialty physicians to treat critical and acute illnesses and injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
