Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Resident Director (RD) for the Upward Bound Program at our Prescott campus. The RD will play a critical leadership role in supervising Resident Advisors (RAs) and ensuring the overall success of the program. This position is designed to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive living environment for high school students participating in the program.

The RD will collaborate closely with the Program Director, Academic Coordinator, and volunteer chaperones during the out-of-state trip and other program activities, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching experience for all participants.

Responsibilities:

Supervision: Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to a team of Resident Advisors, ensuring their adherence to program policies, guidelines, and their fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.

Program Coordination: Collaborate with the program director and academic coordinator to implement a successful Upward Bound program. Oversee on campus activities, tutoring, logistics, safety measures, and academic activities while participants reside on campus.

Scheduling and Coverage Management: Create and maintain a schedule for RA coverage. This schedule will ensure that participants receive attentive support and guidance while allowing RAs to have flexibility and respite during periods when all participants are engaged in classes and duties are fully covered.

Chaperone Support: Work alongside the program director and academic coordinator during the out-of-state trip to ensure participants' safety, engagement, and adherence to schedules. Coordinate with volunteer chaperones and provide guidance as necessary.

Crisis Management: Serve as a secondary point of contact during emergencies or concerns, following established protocols, and effectively communicating with program coordinators, university personnel, and parents/guardians as necessary.

Policy Oversight: Enforce program and university policies within the residential community, maintaining a secure and respectful environment. Address and report any behavioral issues or violations with fairness and consistency.

Collaboration: Collaborate with program staff, university departments to share best practices, ensure effective communication, and contribute to the overall success of the Upward Bound Program.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of class attendance, program activities, incidents, and interactions. Provide regular reports to the program director, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Out-of-State Trip: Week 6th of the Upward Bound Program

As part of the enriching experience offered by the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus, an out-of-state trip is organized during the sixth week of the program. This trip is designed to broaden participants' horizons, expose them to college campuses in an adjacent state, and provide hands-on learning opportunities that align with the program's educational objectives.

During the sixth week of the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus, the RD takes on the role of chaperoning participants and supervising other chaperones on a program trip. Chaperones are responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and engagement of program participants during all activities. They maintain adherence to schedules, provide guidance during interactions and discussions, and respond effectively to any emergent situations. The RD serves as a supervisor and point of contact for crisis management and policy enforcement throughout the trip. The tentative planned dates for the final week trip are July 14th -19th 2025.

Compensation:

This is a temporary full time position. Compensation includes a stipend for the six-week Summer Session in the amount of $4,500.00, on-campus housing, and a meal plan during work hours on Monday through Friday for the duration of the Upward Bound Program.

Qualifications
  • Junior or Senior in good standing in college or a recent graduate.
  • Experience in student affairs, residential life, or a related area.
  • Strong leadership and followership skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in mentoring, counseling, or supervising staff.
  • Ability to communicate and enforce program policies and university rules to Resident Advisors and program participants.
  • Ability to manage crises effectively and remain composed under pressure.
  • Passion for fostering the academic and personal growth of high school students.
