Summary of Job Description:

The Director, Construction plays a critical role in achieving the company's growth plan by overseeing the construction of half the annual new store openings. This position directs a team of Project Managers, coaching and developing associates to elevate their performance.The Director, Construction must integrate construction activities with other related departments, particularly Operations, to ensure predictable store openings and high-quality construction.This position develops and implements process improvement within the Construction function, including new standards, policies, and procedures.The Director, Construction ensures high quality customer service on behalf of Construction.

You'll get a chance to:

  • Responsible for successful completion of half the new store opening based on assigned geography.
  • Ensuring construction meet company and industry standard and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirement.
  • Ensure project are completed appropriately so that operator can focus on start up (and not on construction or equipment issue).
  • Lead a team of Construction Project Manager/Senior Project Manager.
  • Managing, coaching, and developing the project manager to foster their growth and elevate performance.
  • Responsible for hiring, retaining, developing, and elevating associate performance to support the company's growth strategy.
  • Manage staff workload to create balance and back-up coverage.
  • Ensure company construction policy and procedure are followed and work with the Vice President on policy/process change.
  • Develop and implement scalable construction process to support rapid expansion without compromising quality or efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of construction trend, particularly in the retail/hospitality industry.
  • Track the availability of labor and the cost of material and their impact on store construction.
  • Implement new construction technology and best practice (from the retail/hospitality industry).
  • Develop and implement general contractor (GC) strategic sourcing strategy (preferred GC strategy) that set up a foundation for success.
  • Monitor team' application of preferred GC framework.

Your background and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management required.
  • Minimum ten years of construction project management experience, preferably in a retail/hospitality environment with increasing management responsibility
  • Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.
  • Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.

Pay Range: M4: $161,000 - $226,000 / Annual

* Within the range, individual pay is determined using various factors, including work location and experience.

While performing duties, counter areas are often hot with steam from steam table and food vapors. Workspace is restricted and employees are generally expected to remain standing for long periods of time. Employees must prepare hot and cold foods, use Chinese cook knife and other kitchen equipment and work quickly without losing accuracy. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand up to four hours and reach across counter tops measured at 36 inches to serve customers. Kitchens are hot and noise levels are usually high; storage space is limited and shelving is high. Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations.
