The basics of this position:

The Wildwood Campus Science Department of St. Louis Community College is seeking a full-time faculty member in Physical Science. This position is a full-time, continuing faculty positions to start in Fall 2025. Faculty will primarily teach lecture and laboratory classes in college-level physics and engineering physics courses to a diverse student population, using various teaching methods such as face-to-face and hybrid formats. Additionally, faculty may teach on other campuses as needed, as well as teach other physical science courses, including physical science, geology, or earth sciences. The successful candidate will demonstrate the use of varied teaching techniques that help students develop critical thinking skills and support student success.The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to student advising, engagement in departmental activities, and contributions to the College community. Some evening instruction may be required.

What you'll do:

• Formal course contact teaching of 15 credit hours of chemistry lecture and lab courses per fall and spring semester.
  Instructors are responsible for instruction, grading, record-keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional obligations.
  Maintaining the appropriate number of office hours at times of day convenient for students.
  Teaching assignments will primarily consist of courses at the Wildwood campus.
  Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed. Teaching assignments may occur on other STLCC campuses.
  Prepare instructional material and execute instructional activities in accordance with course learning objectives.
  Preparing and correcting examinations and other student work assignments.
  Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress.
  Assistance in student academic advisement.
  Participation in the curriculum review process, including the evaluation and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student learning.
  Participation on department, division, campus and college-wide committees.
  Attendance at faculty meetings and institutional ceremonies or meetings.
  The College reserves the right to assign other normal professional responsibilities as may be appropriate.
  Complying with all provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Education, experience, and other requirements:

A master's degree in physical science or a master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Physical science.

Preferred Qualifications:

Community college teaching experience with graduate courses in education, physics and/or other physical sciences.
Experience with different instructional modalities of physical science education (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
Experience with active and experiential learning.
Knowledge of current laboratory safety procedures.
Experience in maintaining instruments used in teaching physics.
Knowledge of the principles and applications of chemical instrumentation.
Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
Commitment to professional growth including a demonstrated willingness to improving teaching methodology.
