SentaraLeigh Hospital (SLH) is currently recruitingRNStudentsfor the Summer Student Nurse Internship Program (S.N.I.P).Nursing Students are unlicensed staff members who are within two semesters of graduation from an accredited RN program.

Dates: May 19 - July 26, 2025

S.N.I.P. is an early workforce recruitment initiative offered by Sentara Leigh Hospital for soon-to-be graduating seniors from an accredited nursing program.

S.N.I.P. offers aspiring nurses a unique opportunity while working as "nursing students" in our acute care facility that is nationally recognized as a Magnet-designated acute care hospital.

Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited professional Nursing (RN) program within 2 semesters of graduation.
  • BLS required.
  • Resume required at time of application
  • During program timeframe, you must be available every Thursday for shadowing from 7am to 3pm
  • First 2 weeks of program is full-time hours
  • After orientation, expectation is one 12-hour shift plus one shadow shift weekly with opportunity to pick up extra shifts.

After the Program Benefits:

  • When the program ends on July 26, we would like our students to remain in the Resource Pool. We will offer you flexibility around your school schedule.
  • Graduates of the program will be offered interview opportunities with the possibility of preferential job placement and options to participate in sign-on-bonus opportunities.
  • For your senior preceptorship, we are partnering with your school's professors so that we can accept each SNIP student in a preceptorship at Leigh.

Job Summary

Employed unlicensed assistive staff members who have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation and are actively enrolled in an accredited RN program. Accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional registered nurse or APRN provider to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nursing or medical staff.

Nursing students in their final one or two clinical rotations or equivalent senior year prior to graduation will be able to complete higher level tasks as reflected in the advanced level optional competencies including shadowing/partnering with specialty nurses and peripheral IV insertion.

Validated acceptance in and actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program with minimum of one semester/clinical rotation completed is required.

Qualifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI
