Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as local ambassador of the Corporate Koppers Zero Harm Program, including environmental/safety data entry into FOCUS.
  • Ensure facility environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures are in full compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal rules and regulations (such as OSHA, RCRA, FIFRA, NPDES, HazCom, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, Respiratory Protection).
  • Create and maintain the Site Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Management Programs, Operator Manuals, Quality Control Procedures, and Technical Guidelines in accordance with Responsible Care initiatives.
  • Provide support to employees, contractors, and customers on environmental, safety, technical product information, and process applications (topics include pesticide applicator licenses, spill response, NPDES Stormwater, Tier II reporting, Form R submittal, Facility EPA ID numbers, etc.).
  • On an as needed basis, conduct virtual and/or on-site environmental, health, and informational safety training to site employees, contractors, and customers.
  • Coordinate lab disposal program.
  • Understand product performance specifications and requirements to assist in obtaining industry certifications and code approvals of Koppers' wood protection products.
  • Assist customers with coordinating their hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
  • Arrange tank cleanouts or frac tanks at customers' sites.
  • Provide labels and placards to customers when requested.
  • Take lead on all environmental/safety audits and inspections.
  • Periodically conduct drills and inspect Koppers facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where needed, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Address any workplace-related health issues and accidents and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Zero Harm & Culture and Engagement (C&E) in the onboarding process for newly hired employees.
  • Coordinate KPC workers' compensation program with Corporate C&E group.
  • Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, or guidance documents.
  • Travel expected: up to 25%.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) or related field
  • 3-5 years relevant SHE related work experience.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international environmental, chemical, biocidal and/or pesticidal regulations, specifically OSHA HazCom, RCRA, FIFRA, TSCA, NPDES, Canadian PMRA, and Canadian WHMIS.
  • ASP, CSP, or CHMM certification a plus.
  • Maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to effectively work with, and maintain the confidentiality of, sensitive materials and information.
  • Be capable of effectively communicating in writing or speaking to various government, industry, customer, and public or employee groups.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general industry periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • To physically be capable of inspecting, servicing customer plants, product installations, operating sites, and offices.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to work with all levels of employment in all company locations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, good organizational and follow-up skills, be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining Management Systems (ISO 14001, Responsible Care).
  • Hands-on work ethic with the proficiency to put the health and well-being of our employees, environment and community first in an industrial atmosphere.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications (including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams), Adobe Acrobat, and other computer programs used for data generation and tracking.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is a must.
