What this job involves -

The Boiler Operator is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety of boiler systems and related equipment. This role involves ensuring efficient and safe operations, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

What is your day to day?

  • Preventive maintenance and repair of fluid systems including potable water, steam, condensate, chill water, and hot water. Equipment includes piping, tubing, fittings, tanks, pumps, boilers, softeners, filters, heat exchangers, gauges and measurement devices.

  • Requires the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.

  • Assembling all tools, supplies and instruments necessary to complete the job, performing work with a minimum amount disruption, conducting immediate clean up of work area, completing the preventive task sheet, returning tools to workshop, and unused supplies to store room, reporting any impending supply or material shortages to the Operations Manager or Lead Operator of any equipment problems.

  • Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment. Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical controls, switching and motor controls.

  • Monitors operation and maintains fluid system equipment. Records readings as needed.

  • Performs water chemistry analysis per written procedures. Interprets results and communicates necessary corrective actions.

  • Documents work performed with the use of mobile device and computerized maintenance management system. Records work performed in legible notes, completes procedure steps as required, logs time on job accurately.

Desired experience and technical skills

Required:

  • High school diploma or state equivalent required, minimum of two years of related trade schooling or two years of college or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3 years field experience with a Boiler Operators License OR 5 years total field experience and the commitment to obtain a Boiler Operators License.

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.

Preferred:

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Good general computer skills with knowledge in E-mail, Internet, Microsoft office.

  • Must be a self-motivated individual who can work independently and in a team environment.
