Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. Procurement, design, implementation and on-going maintenance and management of the safety data management system. Oversees safety standard operating procedures development and maintenance activities. Develops and oversees management of change process for standard operating procedures and supporting materials.
- Supports the development of a communication and engagement strategy for safety. Creates content for internal and external communication activities. Measures and reports on effectiveness.
- Completes corporate compliance reporting activities for the Occupation Safety and Health Administration, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Key Client Accounts, and internal monthly reporting.
- Develops subcontractor management practices inclusive of prequalification, variance processes, training programs, and contract requirements.
- Establishes resources and manages contracts associated with occupational health services, hazardous materials management, and other supporting third-party services.
- Works with Organizational Development on the Safety Training Program.
- Identifies opportunities and manages efforts to obtain third party certification of safety programs, awards, and industry partnerships. Manages memberships with industry groups.
- Applies working knowledge of Significant Injury and Fatality Prevention, Human and Organizational Performance to the development of the corporate safety program.
- Coordination emergency action planning efforts across the company through network of local contacts.
- Travel to Company and subsidiary offices; offsite client, subcontractor, and supplier meetings; and other locations across North America to fulfill the essential duties of the role as required.
- Regular and reliable attendance in person as required by your Supervisor, Company guidelines, and/or project and office obligations.
Management Responsibilities
- Takes ownership of supporting programs, processes, and systems that make up the corporate safety program.
- Manages simultaneous initiatives in support of the corporate safety organization.
- Provides specific and actional feedback and interpretations to the corporate safety team on safety events and performance.
- Evaluates and makes recommendation of tools and products that may enhance, streamline, or better serve the corporate safety organization.
- Prepares business cases and similar reports to advance initiatives.
- Actively participates and contributes to Safety Team, provides feedback, insight and direction to corporate safety activities and planning.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Embraces corporate systems and processes.
- Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization. Always wears a hard helmet and other appropriate personal protective equipment in the field.
- Models and reinforces an ownership and responsibility mindset.
- Exercises good people skills both within the organization and with subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Safety & Health, Engineering Construction Management or related field AND 15 years' experience in Health & Safety OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Safety Management Specialist credential preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with Integrated Management Systems, ISO or similar.
- Experience with EHS Management software (Intelex, Enablon, VelocityEHS etc.).
- Experience collaborating with multiple operating companies, market sectors, or business units
- Experience with Avetta, ISNetworld or similar.
- High level strategic thinking and problem solving, critical thinking.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Can prioritize and organize business needs, including those that appear to conflict, are ambiguous,
- Responds to common inquiries in a professional and diplomatic way.
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.
- Applies professional judgement and works in an ethical manner.
