Pay Rate: $30.00/hr. on w2 without benefits

Work Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Description:

  • The department is looking for someone with Project Management experience.
  • The Department is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians.
  • This is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts.
  • These entities work together to promote healthy lifestyle choices that can combat chronic disease, educate the public about emergency preparedness and threats to their health, and track disease outbreaks in Virginia.


About The Internship:

  • Hosting an internship program with students enrolled in Norfolk State University's Master of Health Informatics (MHI) program.
  • It is set to begin in May and will last for six weeks. The department will host the second cohort in 2025. The Department is seeking to educate and provide applied practical experiences to students with skill sets that are needed in the public health workforce.


Purpose of Position:

  • The primary objective is to ensure the seamless integration, professional development, and overall success of the interns during their time.
  • This position is instrumental in coordinating various aspects of the program, from onboarding to mentorship, event coordination, and communications, ultimately contributing to the agency's mission of advancing public health through impactful contributions of HealthCare Client informatics professionals.
  • The specialist will play a key role in fostering a collaborative and enriching environment that empowers interns to apply their academic knowledge and gain practical experience within the public health sector.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Identify, support, and schedule host locations for incoming interns.
  • Oversee the timely completion of onboarding tasks for approximately 30 interns from the NSU
  • Informatics program, ensuring a smooth and efficient integration process.
  • Collaborate with administration to facilitate the completion of background checks for all
  • interns, maintaining compliance with organizational standards.
  • Responsively address inquiries from students, providing guidance and directing them toward
  • relevant resources for a successful internship experience.
  • Coordinate opening and closing events, ensuring that these key milestones are organized and executed effectively.
  • Support mentors and hosting assignments for interns.
  • Drafting internship communications (emails, reminders, checklists, materials)
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with placement sites to ensure a high-quality hosting experience for interns.
  • Provide status updates and results reports to leadership.
  • Provide general administrative support.


Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in effectively coordinating, responding to, and leading groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written, spoken, and presentation abilities.
  • Proficient in event planning and highly organized, with the ability to collaborate with
  • administrative services to execute various activities and programs effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and adept at managing paperwork, demonstrating a high level of accuracy and
  • thoroughness in administrative tasks related to intern programs.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate with diverse groups from students to leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate reports based on collected data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing and working with Data analysis programs.
  • Strong programmatic support experience.
  • Experience with multiple data analysis software platforms.
  • Ability to work with SQL, R, or Python.
