Applications are typically reviewed throughout the spring and early summer depending on course needs. The pool will close July 31, 2025; applicants wishing to remain in the pool after that time will need to submit their applications anew. Application Window Open date: February 19, 2025 Next review date: Thursday, Mar 6, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Thursday, Jul 31, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the Summer English Language Studies (SELS) program should openings arise. Courses in the Summer English Language Studies program are aimed at high-beginning through advanced level students who want to enhance their English language skills, improve job performance, or undertake university work. The majority of our students are matriculated college students from a variety of geographical locations. Approximately one-fourth of our students are graduate or professional students. We also support high school students whose sights are set on university work in the U.S. Our students have high academic demands, and we set high academic standards. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from summer to summer depending on the needs of the department. All positions are handled on a by-agreement basis. Potential needs for Summer 2025 include instruction in the following:
Position title: Lecturer in Summer Sessions Job duties: Successful applicants will have an interest not only in teaching, but also in being part of a faculty team. Participation in faculty development workshops and ongoing self-evaluation are important to our program. UC lecturers are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council - American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement of the UC-AFT. Please note: The use of a lecturer pool does not guarantee that an open position exists.
