JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Life;Story is Centerstone's annual signature event(s) focused on raising funds and creating awareness for suicide prevention. Life;Story is currently held in Suicide Prevention Month, and is in its 23rd year in Sarasota, FL, its 3rd year in Marion, IL, and its inaugural year in Clarksville, TN, with plans for a fourth event in Indiana.

As Life;Story Director, you will be responsible for driving the success and year-over-year growth of multiple, large 5K/10K events in different states/communities. Leading teams of dynamic volunteer leaders and staff (each event has a distinct team), you will put your proven relationship management skills to work achieving visibility, increased attendance and revenue goals through positive engagement with corporate and community volunteer leaders and board and staff leadership. As a recognized and enthusiastic community mobilizer and networker, you will exponentially increase Centerstone's brand awareness as you cultivate relationships across multiple communities.

Your success at recruiting, coaching and empowering volunteers will ensure strong volunteer committee retention and succession planning that positions Life;Story for success now and for years to come. You will work closely with the local Directors of Advancement to achieve fundraising goals, clinical operations executives, marketing (for visibility and registrations), and the race management team director (for all race logistics and management). Success in this critical position will require building and growing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, effective communication (via written, verbal), ability to work under tight deadlines, strong leadership skills and with flexibility to adapt and respond to unexpected changes. Must demonstrate initiative and strategy, be well organized, flexible, dependable and goal-oriented, with an enthusiastic and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage complex projects and maintain a collaborative work-style within a large health system. May coordinate and oversee the work of staff, volunteers and/or other professionals. This position reports to the Vice President of Advancement but also has matrixed accountability to other Foundation staff and Centerstone's Chief Executives. Adheres to applicable policies and procedures. Regular attendance and punctuality is required.

Residence in a commutable distance from Middle-Tennessee or Bradenton/Sarasota, FL is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Experience and Brand: Develop and execute an excellent race event experience to promote Centerstone's brand, raise funds and create deep awareness of suicide prevention. Leadership: Provide inspirational leadership, oversight and implementation of Life;Story to meet or exceed revenue, expense and participation goals for three or more 5K/10K/Ruck events annually. Effective Planning and Procurement: Develop annual Life;Story plan and budget. Manage event budget, all contracts, race management, awards/plaques/ trophies, event logistics, event vendors, legal/liability protection, registration and overall event management. Resource Coordination: Coordinate internal resources, volunteers, city agencies, sponsors, vendors and other third parties for flawless event execution. Compile and submit all necessary race plans and permits as required. Volunteers: Recruit, manage, train and coach volunteers to effectively implement best and proven practices to achieve event goals. Communication and Team Building: This dynamic and collaborative role requires extensive cross-department communication to ensure all events are planned and executed at the highest level. Will unite and build a positive, healthy and inclusive team environment that result in long-term staff, community and volunteer relationships. Prospect, cultivate and steward teams, sponsors and participants. Collaboration: With the direction and leadership of Centerstone executives, the steering committee, and external volunteer co-chairs, provides overall leadership and continuity for each Life;Story event. Work with internal and external stakeholders including state Directors of Advancement, the Foundation's Donor Services team, marketing leads, Race Management Director, program directors, and community volunteers. Goal Achievement: Achieve designated financial and participant goals through a committee approach that includes team (peer-to-peer) and individual fundraising, corporate sponsorships and community partnerships. Build sustainable corporate and community relationships that contribute to achieving organizational and revenue goals. Translate event data; prepare reports. Adaptability: Success in this critical position will require building key relationships with internal and external stakeholders built, the ability to work under tight deadlines, strong leadership skills with and flexibility to adapt and respond to unexpected changes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Event Management:
    • Demonstrated event management skills, including the ability set clear goals, organize projects, establish and manage budgets, and establish accountability processes.
    • Experience in special event planning (all aspects from planning, budgeting, vendor/venue negotiation and management, audiovisual, speaker, speech development, registration, etc. through to day-of and post-event analysis and strategies). This includes effectively managing committees of diverse volunteers.
    • Ensures strong ROI.
  • People Engagement:
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategies for identifying, recruiting and engaging high-level volunteer leadership.
    • Demonstrated volunteer management and training skills.
    • Strong ability to build sustainable corporate and community relationships that contribute to achieving organizational and revenue goals.
    • Ability to work with diverse communities and build an inclusive environment.
  • Work & Travel Logistics:
    • Ability and willingness to travel to race locations throughout the year; estimated travel at 25-30% of time.
    • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for the job.
  • Analytical, Technical & Communications:
    • Highly organized, efficient, and detailed project manager; possess superior time-management skills.
    • Excellent computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products
    • Social media experience
    • Ability to rapidly learn other software (i.e. race management, CRM)
    • Advanced organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project management skills.
    • Ability to evaluate problems accurately and exercise appropriate judgment and discretion when dealing with donors, employees, board members, and volunteers; ability to work and solve problems both independently and in a team environment to move projects from inception to completion.
    • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Enthusiastic, action-oriented approach with strong work ethic; fantastic customer service ethic with high expectations for quality.
    • Self-motivated.
    • Excellent communicator, enthusiastic and positive personality, strong interpersonal skills

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Level

  • Bachelor's degree required

Years of Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of proven experience recruiting and mobilizing staff, community volunteers and community leaders to achieve goals, preferably in a peer-to-peer fundraising environment, successfully meeting revenue targets.
  • Experience with race management or managing sporting fundraising events
  • Experience planning and executing multi-state events
