BASIC FUNCTION:

This position is primarily responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Company's financial system, including preparing consolidated financial statements for monthly internal financial and statistical reporting, and providing financial information to the parent company (Gerdau, S.A.) on a timely basis. This position is also responsible for the consolidation of the company, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing audit schedules, and financial and statistical analysis. This position will be involved with the month end close of the company. This position will have to research technical accounting topics when required by management.

The incumbent will be involved in several projects and would work without close supervision and somewhat independent toward achieving specific project goals.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position should possess a broad knowledge of accounting and reporting, preferably in a manufacturing environment, including consolidated reporting for SEC registrants. This position requires formal education at an accredited university with a degree in accounting,with 5 to 10 years of work experience with a large public accounting firm and/or private company within the SEC reporting area is preferred. Work experience should include exposure to a manufacturing environment and hands-on experience in general accounting, cost accounting, and internal controls. Being a Certified Public Accountant is preferred. The incumbent should be proficient in PC software, preferably Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


The incumbent should have or must develop an intimate knowledge of the Company's accounting system to include the SAP and various other software applications.

This position assists the Corporate Accounting Manager in the accounting functions of the Corporate Office. These functions include the month-end closing of ledgers for the corporation and subsidiaries, conducting control self-assessments for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and internal audit, general ledger account reconciliations, analysis and review, management reporting, external financial reporting, journal entries, and reviews the closing of month-end. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment when there are problems in final results before presentation to the Corporate Accounting Manager.

This position also will be involved in a wide variety of financial and accounting projects. Examples of such projects include the following:




  1. Applying purchase/push-down accounting to acquired entities.
  2. Establishing accounting procedures and documentation for the various accounting functions throughout the Company including the operating divisions.
  3. Evaluating various software purchases for financial reporting.
  4. Training users to various financial/accounting software.
  5. Update accounting administration manual including documentation of flow of accounting and statistical information.
  6. Revise/update chart of accounts.



The Senior Accountant II works in close coordination and cooperation with all levels of management, operating unit personnel, and internal/external auditors. The incumbent should possess excellent communication and problem solving skills.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:




  1. Assists in monthly closing and financial reporting by preparing routine complex journal entries, consolidation of the various legal entities, review journal entries prepared by accountants, and clear zone balancing. Reviews system generated journal entries for accuracy and reasonableness.




  1. Monthly internal financial reporting, primarily the monthly Financial Report (which includes monthly financial and statistical information) for management.




  1. Annually prepares the Financial Statements including footnotes.




  1. Using and maintaining Crystal Reports maintained in the Crystal software reporting package, which is used to prepare the financial statements, various footnotes, and statistical reports.




  1. Quarterly and annual preparation of schedules and footnote support for Gerdau, S.A. (parent company).




  1. Conducts internal audit control self-assessment reviews and assists in SOX-related audit issue resolutions




  1. Maintains integrity of balance sheet accounts through review of account activity and balances for accuracy and reasonableness, and prepares audit schedules for outside auditors.




  1. Performs accounting for complex accounting areas, such as stock compensation, pensions and derivatives, etc.

  2. Performs general accounting duties including maintaining the accounting structure for account hierarchy in the financial statements and preparation/submission of various governmental financial and statistical reports as required.

  3. Accounting projects as assigned by the Corporate Accounting Manager and Chief Accountant; requires independence and project management skills to obtain project objectives.




  1. Prepares financial analysis as required by management.

  2. Acts as the liaison with plant and corporate accounting personnel for accounting issues.




  1. Seeks continual improvements of all accounting processes.

  2. Stays abreast of current accounting standards, including, but not limited to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the various authoritative accounting guidance (FASB, SEC, etc) to ensure adequate accounting for and disclosure of the company's financial information for internal and external reporting. Ad hoc research and special projects related to a wide range of technical accounting and financial reporting issues.
