UIC is seeking a DevSecOps Systems Engineer to join our Technology Solutions team. This role will be working collaboratively with IT security, system engineers, developers, and application owners to enhance our service portfolio. As a key member of our development team, you will play a vital role in improving the security of our infrastructure, bringing new efficiencies and capabilities to our software solutions. Your responsibilities will include secure service development, system and code analysis, security testing, vulnerability management, and automation and orchestration.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Applying DevSecOps principles, participate in and lead audits, tabletop exercises, and compliance activities to ensure systems meet regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, FERPA, PIPA, NIST SP 800-171, etc.
  • Design and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines, automating the software delivery process.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to increase efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Create and maintain documentation of security and operational procedures, including disaster recovery plans and incident response procedures.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to maintain compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or closely related field of study.
  2. Minimum of 6 years of professional IT experience which includes 2 years' experience at a supervisory or lead worker capacity
  3. Demonstrated experience within IS Security which includes experience in assessing, monitoring and maintaining, and evaluating information security policies and systems, including hardware, firmware and software.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, systems administration, or network engineering.
  • Specialty in vulnerability management, including assessing risks and threats, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing remediation or mitigation strategies to enhance security posture.
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with automation tools.
  • Specialization with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Specialization with configuration tools such as Ansible Automation.
  • Specialization with identity and access management, network security, and encryption.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and a commitment to delivering high-quality products.
