UIC is seeking a Database Analyst to join our School of Public Health Information Technology team. This role will work closely with the Lead Data and Application Analyst in the Information Technology Department of the School of Public Health, the Database Analyst is responsible for the management of administrative databases used within the School. Develops internal data systems to support the integration of data collection, reporting, and analytics within the School. Responsible for implementation and monitoring of data quality and security. Provides reporting on data management and quality issues and concerns. Provides .NET programming support when necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide customers data-driven output based on their requests. Work with stakeholders to ensure data requirements are feasible and to further understand business objectives. Analyze functional and performance issues, collaborate with peers on possible solutions and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Act as a technical and institutional resource on the best practices and use of software, strategy, and tools to design and implement enterprise systems scalable client solutions.
  • Analyze, design, create, implement and maintain databases for use within the School of Public Health. Perform data analysis/visualization to answer the business questions using appropriate tool.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to understand their unique requirements and leads the development of key architecture development and solutions.
  • Works with user departments to implement solutions utilizing C# and .NET Framework coding languages. Utilize SQL Server Integration Systems (SSIS) to extract data from data sources.
  • Dynamically connect the front-end web/application to third-party applications such as Banner, Electronic Data Warehouses, and authentication systems such as Shibboleth, BlueStem, LDAP, Computer Associates' SiteMinder, and Insight Symplicity.
  • Create proper documentation and run a log of all system builds and processes.
  • Complete individual projects and tasks assigned by supervisor on time with quality.
  • Provide supervision and support to the student IT staff to triage, prioritize, and respond to IT web development.
  • Actively seek out relationships with customer community by seeing out other analysts in their field, proactively communicating relevant information and discussing their needs, initiatives, and service levels through periodic meetings.
  • Provide updates on a regular basis to team on status of projects or tasks assigned. Manage expectations of customers to resolve customer satisfaction issues.
  • Research and recommend new approaches, methodologies, tools, techniques and guidelines for building data information systems within SPH.
  • Participate in planning, developing and implementing cloud strategy.
  • Collaborate with security administrators to secure cloud infrastructure.
  • Understand, design, and deploy cloud services based on application needs.
  • Partner with other Technology Team members on complex problems and strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 1 years of professional IT experience within Database Design and Administration which includes demonstrated experience in the design, creation and implementation of databases, including data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas, validation checks and data security.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working understanding of SQL Data Analysis Services, SQL Reporting Services, and SharePoint content management environment, C#, .NET Framework.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, maintaining, and administering databases via SQL Server Management and Oracle Enterprise Manager; demonstrated experience using reporting tools to generate end-user reports using SQL. Provide administration and maintenance for MS SQL Server. Connect .NET Framework-based applications to databases.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing environments including Business Intelligence reporting. Applications front end public facing sites and WordPress development competence. An extensive understanding of .NET Framework.
  • Problem analysis; project management; entity-relationship modelling.
  • Stored procedures (sproc), complex queries, correlated/nested sub-queries, and derived tables.
  • Ability to develop programs and reports using SQL in a .Net environment and Oracle in Database Management; Ability to handle confidential information with appropriate discretion; The ability to code and debug issues for plausible solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines; ability to work with a diverse user community with varying levels of experience related to data management.
