Position Summary
-
Assist the public through the Corvallis Municipal Court process, collect fines, maintain defendant files including all correspondence between the defendant, attorneys, and the Court, and maintain computer-based data for each citation adjudicated through Municipal Court. Transfer information between involved parties and agencies. May be assigned specific responsibility to criminal, parking, or traffic issues. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.
Part-Time, 10-20 hours per week
Casual, non-represented position
Flexible Hours, Monday - Friday

Essential Functions
-
Provides paraprofessional court support regarding arraignments, trials and violations bureau to ensure accurate processing of defendant's cases through the court system.
Provides customer service to people at the counter, over the phone and via e-mail; provides accurate information regarding court procedures to defendants and the public. Provides information to defendants about their case status.
Issues and reinstates driver's license suspensions.
Enters citations and payments into computerized information system; accurately tracks all activity associated with each citation.
Collects and processes payments; negotiates time payment agreements. Collects Non-Sufficient Funds checks.
Assists Judge with various non-courtroom matters.
Maintains court security per Judge's order; maintains confidentiality.
Acts ethically and honestly; applies ethical standards of behavior to daily work activities and interactions. Builds confidence in the City through own actions.
Conforms with all safety rules and performs work is a safe manner.
Adheres to all City and Department policies.
Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.
Maintains effective work relationships.
Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience of a general clerical nature, involving high volume public contact is preferred.
Court related work experience and bilingual in Spanish desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Municipal Court systems and procedures or the ability to acquire within one (1) year of appointment.
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and understanding of legal terms.
Ability to apply procedures and policies to the situation at hand with minimal supervision.
Ability to type by touch, from rough draft correspondence, and compose correspondence; ten-key proficiency; computer operating experience or training is required.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required; experience with legal terminology preferred.
Ability to apply Judge's orders and resolve Parking Order and Violations Bureau matters at the counter.
Ability to maintain composure even in difficult situations; deal tactfully with the public; and deal calmly and effectively in confrontational and/or high stress situations.
Ability to plan and organize own work for accomplishment and work effectively during changing priorities and interruptions; handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and judgement in dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
Ability to get along well with coworkers, and the general public, and maintain effective work relationships.
Special Requirements
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and/or criminal history check.
Ability to meet LEDS certification requirements.
Ability to possess and maintain CJIS security clearance.
Ability to possess and maintain Notary Public certification.
