Position Overview:

Georgia State University's Instructional Innovation and Technology (IIT) division is seeking a skilled professional to join our vibrant and growing team as a Network Engineer, Associate. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Network Engineering, and limited direction from Network Engineering Leads, this position provides technical assistance for network infrastructure failures identified by monitoring tools or inspections. The Network Engineer, Associate will also resolve incidents or requests assigned via the current ticketing system, including but not limited to telephony, network infrastructure, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless, VPN, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

The scope of responsibilities for this position will include but is not limited to the following essential duties:




  1. Network Design and Implementation:


    • Assist in the design, installation, configuration, and management of campus network infrastructure hardware and software, following industry best practices, IIT, Board of Regents, and vendor recommendations.


  2. Diagnostics and Problem Resolution:


    • Provide Level I & II diagnostics and problem fault isolation for network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, gateways, UPS, VOIP, data center equipment, management devices, and monitoring tools to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.


  3. Security and Compliance:


    • Work with the Information Security team to ensure compliance with university policies and industry standards for network security as we identify, track, and mitigate security issues within the network. This includes deactivation of network systems and users with security issues.


  4. Customer Service and Support:


    • Deliver exceptional customer service to the university community, including faculty, staff, students, vendors, and others.
    • Respond to and resolve incidents or requests assigned via the ticketing system, ensuring timely and effective solutions.


  5. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:


    • Create and maintain documentation for repetitive tasks, network system interconnections, configurations, and processes.
    • Update the knowledge base with new procedures and best practices to facilitate cross-training and knowledge sharing within the team.


  6. Infrastructure and Systems Monitoring:


    • Monitor network infrastructure and systems daily, including environmental monitoring.
    • Support data center facilities management, including floor/rack space, power, cooling, capacity planning, hosting, and materials management.


  7. Asset Management:


    • Perform asset management for all GSU IIT network engineering hardware, includes organizing items for surplus, conducting RMA with vendors, and tracking hardware from commissioning to decommissioning.
    • Maintain and update the internal asset management database.


  8. After-Hours Support:


    • Provide after-hours technical support as needed, to include recovery support and services for the campus-wide network and centrally managed platform systems.
    • Anticipate and respond to emergent situations to ensure the continuity of network services.


  9. Professional Development:


    • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with the latest network technologies and best practices.
    • Contribute to a collaborative and innovative work environment by sharing knowledge and expertise with team members.


  10. Additional Duties:


    • Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director, Network Engineering, or Network Engineer, Leads.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and one year related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:



  • Preferred Certification(s): CCNA, Network+
  • Knowledge of ticketing systems, such as ServiceNow
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Familiarity with network security practices and compliance standards.
