Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Event and Conference Services ( ECS) department is seeking a full-time Event Manager. The Event Manager schedules internal meetings, programs and events and coordinates requirements for them.
Applicants should be focused on great customer service and be dedicated to meeting client expectations by building effective relationships and completing projects to the highest standards. They should possess excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, project management skills, organizational skills and be able to balance multiple tasks and project timelines.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Venue Booking and Administration:

    • Handle meeting/program/event requests from internal clients. Respond to a high volume of requests in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Assign and schedule meetings/programs/events based on space and resource availability. Organize, input and manage data in Momentus.
    • Participate in daily calendar review meetings.
    • Control expenses and review invoices for internal meetings/programs/events.
    • Analyze space usage and produce various space usage reports.
    • Support department operations and administration as needed.



  • Meeting, Program and Event Coordination:

    • Collaborate with internal clients to facilitate all logistics for meetings/programs/events including room setup, food and beverage, A/V, Security and Facilities. Create and disseminate service orders to the appropriate service providers. Ensure event rooms are set up correctly and event service orders are accurate and delivered on-time. Lead the full life cycle of event operations.
    • Conduct liquor inventory.


  • Maintain a work schedule that includes early mornings, weekends, evenings and holidays.

The expected salary range for the Event Manager is $65,000/annual - $70,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years experience coordinating events, including professional experience working with food and beverage services, venue scheduling and operations, event planning and/or hospitality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with CRM/Event Management software.
  • Experience with floor plan design software.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality or another related field.
  • Experience working at a nonprofit or cultural institution.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
  • Positioning/change of positioning: Must be able to frequently position oneself/body to accomplish job duties.
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently. May include any of the following:

      • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward or outward.
      • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
      • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
