Tax Manager (Multi-State Sales, Property, & Use Tax)
Location: Ontario, CA (Onsite)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time
Job Summary:

The Tax Manager oversees their multi-state tax compliance, focusing primarily on sales, property, and use tax. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of state and local tax regulations, experience managing sales tax audits, and a proven track record of successful tax filing and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional looking to make a significant impact.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
* Manage the preparation and filing of multi-state sales, property, and use tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate submissions. This includes understanding the complexities of tax laws related to various product categories, transaction types, and contractual agreements.
* Oversee and manage sales tax audits, including communication with state and local tax agencies. This will involve addressing specific audit issues related to inventory, pricing, promotional activities, and revenue reporting.
* Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify potential tax savings opportunities, considering the unique tax implications of our business operations, including multi-state transactions and diverse revenue streams.
* Prepare tax memos and documentation to support tax positions, including documentation related to product classifications, taxability, and contractual arrangements.
* Collaborate with other departments, such as operations, merchandising, business development, franchising, and e-commerce, to gather necessary information for tax compliance, including data on sales, inventory, promotions, and performance metrics.
* Monitor changes in tax legislation and implement necessary updates to processes and procedures, particularly regarding regulations affecting the sale of various goods, online sales, and delivery services.
* Utilize Avalara or Vertex software for tax calculations and reporting, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting for all sales transactions, including online and delivery sales, and revenue reporting.
* Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities, considering the specific challenges and opportunities within our industry, including optimizing tax structures for multi-state operations and business growth.
* Mentor and train junior tax staff.
* Stay up-to-date on current tax laws and regulations, with a focus on those impacting the retail sale of goods, online sales, and delivery services.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Business, or a related field.
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent (EA), or related license.
* 5+ years of experience in sales tax, property tax, or use tax, including experience with sales tax audits or working with state sales tax agencies.
* Experience with multi-state tax filing.
* Proficiency in tax compliance software (e.g. Avalara or Vertex).
* Strong knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.
* Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience working with the government sector (city, county, or federal) a plus.
* Experience with tax in sales and sold is highly desirable.

The base pay range above represents the low and high end of the base compensation range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
