Job Summary:

The Senior Corporate Security Investigator (CSI) works independently with the stakeholders to conduct Investigation, Liaison and Intelligence Collection. Employees at this level will conduct more advanced investigations while collaborating with the Enterprise Investigative Team. Senior CSIs are expected to work more independently, develop advanced intelligence collection skills and continue to build their liaison relationship base. They will effectively apply fundamental investigative concepts and procedures to investigations of increasing complexity.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex company investigations in support of Ethics, HR, Legal, Nuclear, and Enterprise Security, conduct interviews, review incident reports, report findings, brief management regarding on-going investigations, coordinate sync meetings with investigative partners, analyze data, collect evidence, conduct searches, assess facts and collected evidence and document recommendations.

  • Conduct liaison with internal and external stakeholders, provide physical security support for sites, physical security recommendations to customers, coordination of off-duty law enforcement, collect property, coordinate security requests from business units.

  • Liaison with law enforcement, collection of police reports, witness testimony, subpoena and court order compliance, coordinate covert camera installations in support of criminal investigations.

  • Case documentation and report writing.

  • Conduct surveillance, intelligence collection, coordinate responses to threats and acts of violence against the company, coordinate and discuss enhanced physical security at sites and brand-based risk assessments using investigative results.

  • Pre job briefs, operational planning, interview planning.

  • Provide support to all other functions of EPS to include physical security, escorts into secured space, coordination with business units to obtain information in support of projects, response to security events reported directly or by the ESCC.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or Other Related Degree

  • Minimum five (5) years relevant work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelors degree and 5 years experience, HS/GED and minimum seven (7) years relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of the energy industry - specifically: the operation of the Bulk Electric System, the U.S. Natural Gas production and delivery system, and Renewable Energy.

  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Homeland Security Studies, Intelligence Studies or Analysis, Security Studies, Security management, Security and Intelligence, or similar

  • 10+ years years of investigative experience, law enforcement preferred; strong law enforcement network within hiring region; technical investigation experience; instructor/trainer experience

  • ASIS Certifications desired

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

  • CLEAR National Certified Investigator and Inspector

  • Private Investigator License

  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Certification

  • Intelligence Fundamentals Professional Certification (DoD)

Working Conditions:

  • Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.

  • Office environment

  • Deploy in support of emergent work on short notice, nights and weekends

Specific Requirements:

  • 40+ hours of Interview and Interrogation Training, Report Writing, Public Speaking and Presentation Training

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Strong investigative and interview skills. Ability to collaborate extensively with other investigators and corporate stakeholders.

  • Understanding of the energy industry - specifically: the operation of the Bulk Electric System, the U.S. Natural Gas production and delivery system, and Renewable Energy.

  • Understanding of compliance regarding regulatory/NERC CIP procedures

  • Understanding and application of the principles of both Cyber and Physical Security

  • Flexibility. The ability to adjust quickly and respond to security incidents quickly, including after-hours work and weekend work. The ability to work in a variety of environments and to quickly adapt to changes in mission and work priorities.

  • The ability to drive a company vehicle, pull a trailer, install overt and covert cameras, conduct walk downs of security sites, and work in hazardous conditions. Entry into substations and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including fire rated clothing is required.

  • Strong computer skills including data entry including Microsoft Office software usage. Use of advanced database and analytics software including investigative tools, Dataminr, Analyst Notebook and similar systems preferred

  • Detailed knowledge of law enforcement and the court systems including state and federal law, policies, procedures and tactics

  • Strong liaison background across law enforcement, Corporate Security and business networks. Extensive law enforcement network in the Duke Energy upstate South Carolina/western North Carolina regions region preferred

  • Experience in intelligence collection, data analytics, law enforcement databases, investigative assessment of social media and public source information

  • Training in evidence collection, handling and storage. Knowledge of forensic testing in support of investigations is preferred.

  • An understanding of the information available from business technology necessary to support investigations including access control technology, security cameras, equipment locator information, covert camera usage, and badging information.

  • Ability to professionally communicate and represent the company. CSI will interview work crew members, office employees, managers, directors, vice presidents and board members within the Duke Energy enterprise. CSI will regularly interface with executives from other organizations, Law Enforcement Executives, conduct coordination with federal partners during designated National Special Security Events (NSSE), interact with attorneys and court personnel, and build liaison relationships across the community.

  • CSI are required to augment the Duke Energy Executive Protection detail. Knowledge of executive protection operations, planning, advanced site assessments.

  • Discretion and the ability to protect sensitive information including digital forensic analysis results, personally identifiable information (PII), customer information, and sensitive background information. The possession of or the ability to obtain a security clearance is desired.

  • Understanding of Emergency Management processes and procedures as they relate to security operations including Command Post activities.
