General Summary:
The Fitness and Wellness Coordinator manages fitness and wellness student staff, coordinates the planning and implementation of fitness and wellness programs, instructs fitness related classes, manages personal training staff/services, performs wellness workshops and services, and evaluates fitness and wellness related programs. This individual also assists UMN Crookston Athletics with Strength & Conditioning support. This individual will also supports the mission and activities of UMN Crookston through whole-unit, campus and community involvement.

To meet the demands and expectations of this position, work hours will vary greatly from day to day, week to week, and season to season.

Tasks Within Each Major Job Function:

Program Development and Administration:

  • Create and coordinate Fitness and Wellness programming. Programming includes areas of Group Exercise, Personal Training, Wellness, and Special Events. Specific programs may include activities, workshops, special events and certification courses, classes.
  • Administrative tasks associated with program development: Working with our marketing team for promotions, creating information materials for customers, entering information into software systems.
  • Represent UMN Crookston Wellness Center on campus and community committees and external collaborations
  • Instruct a variety of Group Fitness classes including yoga, strength training, cycling, etc. to both student and employee groups
  • Instruct Wellness workshops including Summer programming

Strength & Conditioning:

  • A strength-conditioning coach works directly with the head coach of each sport to put together a schedule for strength and conditioning workout times for each team. The strength and conditioning coach can work with an entire team during training sessions as well as with individual athletes.
  • The individual must provide expert instruction in the use of weight machines and conditioning equipment and be able to tailor different programs based on the needs of the teams or individual athletes.
  • The individual also will monitor the Athletic weight room.

Program Planning:

  • Create and coordinate Fitness and Wellness program schedule.
  • Collaborate with UMN Crookston professional staff and Facilities Management to schedule facilities and work together to manage facilities.
  • Create, monitor, assess and update all policies and practices pertaining to Fitness and Wellness
  • Collaborate to create, monitor, assess and update policies and practices in all aspects of recreational offerings
  • Contribute to the UMN Crookston team by assisting and working with individuals from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds (i.e. race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, or sexual orientation)
  • Project annual budget for Fitness and Wellness program
  • Participate in long-range planning and events for UMN Crookston Wellness Center

Student Supervision and Development:

  • Supervise the Fitness and Wellness program staff to include creation of job descriptions, hire, train and instruct, assign work, and evaluate performance.
  • Assist with planning and conducting staff training, awards banquets, and staff events.
  • Assess student learning within Fitness and Wellness programming.
  • Assist in the delivery of diversity/inclusion training.

Risk Management:

  • Create, update, teach, and monitor safety and risk as it pertains to fitness and wellness.
  • Assist with Risk Management and Emergency Action Plans development and implementation

Equipment and Inventory Management:

  • Oversight of Fitness/Wellness program related equipment inventory, budget and finances
  • Work in collaboration with Rec Center Coordinator to select, manage, and oversee maintenance of weight and cardio equipment located in the main recreational facility.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or closely related field plus at least 2 years of related experience, or a combination of related education and work experience equal to six (6) years
  • Candidate must be a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • Experience in leading group exercise and wellness programs, personal training, staff supervision & development, risk management, and budget planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise science or related field
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.59 - 25.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
