About the Job:
This role isresponsible for developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety plans, ensuring compliance with legal regulations by monitoring practices, conducting training sessions, investigating accidents, and recommending improvements to maintain a safe working environment for all team members;they actively work to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses by identifying and mitigating hazards Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Creating and enforcing safety policies, procedures, and guidelines aligned with industry standards and legal requirements.
- Conducting regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and prioritize mitigation strategies.
- Designing and delivering safety training programs to educate employees on proper procedures, emergency response, and hazard awareness.
- Thoroughly investigating workplace accidents and near misses to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent future occurrences.
- Regularly reviewing safety practices and documentation to ensure adherence to policies and relevant regulations (OSHA, etc.).
- Tracking safety metrics like incident rates and employee injuries to identify trends and inform improvement initiatives.
- Promoting a strong safety culture by encouraging team member participation in safety programs and open communication regarding safety concerns.
- Developing and practicing emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
- Integrating safety considerations into operational planning and decision-making.
- Develop safety documents such as chemical inventory and SDS binders for each location, Hazard Communication and Emergency Response procedures.
- Assist in PPE assessment and safety training for each site, including fit testing.
- Collaborate with on-site safety teams and the compliance team, including to ensure fire drills are scheduled, fire extinguishers are scheduled for testing, eye wash and shower stations are tested, etc.
- Report near misses, workplace accidents and response/corrective actions to the Legal and HR teams.
- Traveling up to 30-50% of the time.
About You: General
- Regulations require that incumbent be at least 21 years of age and able to obtain and maintain medical marijuana work credentials
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science or related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years of relevant safety experience, leading national or local safety practices.
- Experience in the cannabis industry or other highly regulated sectors is strongly preferred.
- Experience with chemical safety, including flammable and combustible materials, extraction and C1D1 booths preferred.
- Additional training and certifications in OSHA, ISO, HAZWOPER, etc. is preferred.
