The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional clinical leader to join the Department of Internal Medicine as Associate Chair for Clinical Practice.

Successful applicants will be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor level and should have experience in clinical leadership within an academic medical center. Candidates from internal medicine specialties will be considered for the role.

The Associate Chair of Clinical Practice will provide leadership for the Department's clinical programs and he or she will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, innovative, value-based care in partnership with other departmental and school leaders; department division chiefs; and internal medicine faculty and staff.

About the Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 20 categorical residents per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC) is a 220-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the inpatient training facility for this program. In September 2021, Dell Med's IM program deployed a resident staffed team to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) Hospital. SMCA is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Center. SMCA also has a Level IV Trama Center.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities



  • Work with and support division chiefs and medical directors to optimize clinical operations across multiple sites.
  • Mentor faculty-led clinical improvement efforts.
  • Work with internal and external partners to grow and optimize existing programs and develop new clinical programs that deliver on the mission of the School and Department.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and iteration of innovative care models for key internal medicine conditions.
  • In partnership with the Division Chiefs, help faculty and other providers provide high quality, patient-centered care that is sustainable and of the highest value.
  • Supervise key initiatives related to improving quality and patient experience across multiple sites, and within and across the divisions.
  • Develop metrics and performance evaluation processes to assess individual and group performance.
  • Collaborate with the other Associate Chairs and Division Chiefs in the Department to ensure cohesive, mutually reinforced goals and initiatives.
  • Represent the Department in key clinical decision-making bodies within Dell Medical School and its partners.
  • Contribute to the planning of the hospital for the future, where appropriate.

Qualifications

Required



  • Accomplishments that qualify the candidate for appointment as an Associate or full Professor.
  • Leadership of improvement initiatives with demonstrated results.
  • Current board certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Eligibility for unrestricted medical license in the state of Texas.

  • Entrepreneurial thinker with ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in an overall mix of skills including clinical care, clinical teaching, and scholarly activity.
  • Strong track record of scholarship.
