Job Summary

The Education Unit of the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) directs and manages the education of all trainees in Emergency Medicine, including medical students, residents, and fellows as well as continuing medical education (CME) for the department. The activities of the DEM Education Unit are multi-site including UCSF Hellen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals San Francisco (Mission Bay) and Oakland, and offsite rotations. The Education Unit includes the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, 3 ACGME fellowship programs, 8 non-ACGME fellowship programs, 12 Emergency Medicine medical student courses, and visiting housestaff. The unit is headed by the Vice Chair for Education and includes the Associate Residency Program Director, Assistant Residency Program Directors, Medical Student Clerkship Co-Directors, Fellowship Directors, Education Programs Manager, two Education Programs Sr. Analysts, and three Education Programs Analysts.

The Education Programs Analyst creates and oversees the clinical schedules for all residents who rotate in the Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland (BCH Oakland) Pediatric Emergency Department and provides administrative and programmatic support for the education unit. The incumbent applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners. The individual coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, learner scheduling, onboarding, evaluations, maintaining databases, and tracking learner and faculty compliance with education requirements.

Department Description

The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) provides emergency medical care to over 177,000 patients annually at the UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals at Mission Bay and Oakland and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. DEM administrative and research staff support the work of 92 full-time faculty and 50+ part-time attending physicians, a residency program, fellowship programs, and over 300 housestaff and students each year. Required Qualifications


  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry
  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program
  • Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars / schedules requires extremely well organized and detail-oriented precision
  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues
  • Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems
