JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to provide advanced/complex scheduling of chemotherapy patients to include intricate scheduling protocols for department or clinic. Potential for hybrid schedule three days onsite two days remote.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience
3 years years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a medical, scientific, or health care environment with High School Diploma. or
Preferred
- Education
Associate's Degree two (2) years college or completion of a certified medical office assistant program, preferred.
- Experience
1 year years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a medical, scientific, or health care environment with either 2 years of college or completion of a certified medical office assistant program.
Prior experience in oncology/chemotherapy treatment preferred.
JOB DUTIES
- Schedules patient chemotherapy in accordance with established protocols; acquires the appropriate information and orders from the oncologist. Communicates directly with patients regarding appointment times.
- May provide pre-certification of procedures to ensure coverage and proper billing; may obtain insurance pre-certification from external referring physician offices, and contact insurance carriers for confirmation.
- Responsible for accurately entering scheduling, insurance and registration information into the appropriate system(s).
- Maintains and monitors chemotherapy resources to keep utilization maximized; advises supervisor of under and over block times, so appropriate staffing levels and patients can be managed safely.
- Identifies and reconcile patient appointments with orders to ensure all patients are scheduled appropriately and timely. Notifies nurse/physician of any discrepancy in patient care so that remedy can be implemented.
- Acts as a liaison with other departmental schedulers when needed for the coordination of multiple appointments and/or procedures to ensure patients are efficiently scheduled.
- May research claims on payment denials from third-party carriers for pre-certified procedures.
- Adheres to patient privacy act HIPAA, and confidentiality policy at all times.
