JOB MISSION:

As a Lead Robotics Engineer, you will support manufacturing equipment developed by the Manufacturing Innovation Robotics and Automation group. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing automated manufacturing equipment in New Balance domestic factories. You will monitor breakdowns, troubleshoot issues that arise, and communicate problems/solutions to stakeholders. You will also work collaboratively with innovation and technology and maintenance as required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide on-site support for domestic manufacturing operations by identifying, troubleshooting, and solving technical issues (hardware & software) that arise on manufacturing equipment. Document issues and identified solutions and communicate corrective actions to relevant stakeholders. Report out monthly on machine up time.
  • Serve as technical leader with a focus on robotics. Work with Mechanics team to implement new projects, cross train on all machinery, and develop future talent.
  • Collaboratively support factory lean initiatives and tools.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations and maintain quality standards. Proactively identify safety issues - communicate and coach team members on improvements.
  • Order and maintain inventory of spare parts for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist in developing preventative maintenance schedules for new equipment and control downtime by informing team members of routine preventive maintenance techniques. Use downtime tracking to problem solve ongoing issues, improve PM's and data collection.
  • Prioritize work orders, ensure they are completed.
  • Serve as point of contact for Manufacturing Innovation. Lead and track projects from Manufacturing Innovation, coordinating tasks to ensure all requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Travel to domestic factories in MA, ME, and NH.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant work experience with electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and robotic systems. Experience with robots such AMRs, 6-axis robots, and custom designed robot systems.
  • Experience assembling and debugging complex automation systems involving mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting, program structure, and Linux command prompt. Experience with programming Universal Robots and/or other 6-axis robots.
  • Ability to use a broad range of hand power tools to service machinery.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, safety practices, and robotic safety equipment (familiar with OSHA standards, robotic safety standards, Lockout/Tagout, arc flash hazards, light curtains, safety mats, safety scanners).
  • Ability to read and apply manuals, schematics, and instructions.
  • Knowledge of PLC design, programming, and installation.
  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills, used to troubleshoot complex problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. is required. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Willingness to travel within New England area on short notice.
