North State Bank has an exciting opportunity for a Consumer and Mortgage Credit Administration Manager in our Credit Department. This role oversees the management of the consumer credit and mortgage underwriting risk management process by approving loan requests, performing credit analysis, interpreting risks, and coordinating and communicating with appropriate departments in support of the consumer and mortgage underwriting credit administration process.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Underwrites and approves consumer loans within authority and makes recommendations for loans exceeding individual authority.
- Dispenses advice, guidance, direction, and authorization related to consumer lending and underwriting to banking officers and credit analysts while fostering an environment of employee development.
- Dispenses advice, guidance, and direction related to origination and underwriting to mortgage underwriters and mortgage loan officers while fostering an environment of employee development.
- Keeps abreast of information on new consumer loan products, industry trends, and regulatory changes.
- Keeps abreast of changes in mortgage regulations, compliance matters, and underwriting guidelines for FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA & NC Housing
- Oversees the development and implementation of underwriting best practices, policies and procedures for consumer and mortgage loans.
- Responsible for the education and development of underwriting employees, performance reviews, including assisting eligible underwriters in obtaining appropriate certifications.
- Performs responsibilities of subordinates as needed.
- Manages and maintains various reports, as needed.
- Underwrites employee mortgages and underwrites a sufficient number of VA loans to maintain SAR.
- Oversees the mortgage appraisal desk and submits appraisal and AMS invoices to accounting as applicable.
- Performs special projects as needed.
Qualifications (Includes education, certifications, experience, etc.):
- A bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, Economics or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten or more years of mortgage underwriting experience with a minimum of three years of underwriting management experience.
- Maintain appropriate certification (FHA DE and VA SAR/LAPP), as required, to underwrite government loans.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of consumer and mortgage loan documentation and risk management techniques.
- Fundamental understanding of federal and state laws and regulations governing consumer lending.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state laws and regulations governing the mortgage industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
- Computer literacy in spreadsheet, word processing, analytical software, and automated systems used in underwriting.
- Possess analytical and auditing skills with attention to detail.
