Job Description
Position Summary The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center?s (OSUWMC) mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, education and research. The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCN) assists/provides nursing care to patients with ostomies, wounds, or skin conditions using specialized nursing knowledge and clinical expertise. In addition, serves as a resource person for the patient, family, health care team members and community at large. The WOCN coordinates the nursing plan of care of patients with fecal and urinary diversions, wounds, drains, skin care problems, and incontinence. Scope of Position The WOCN is an integral member of the patient care team as well as with other patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient?s involvement in the plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of stay and decreasing costs. Minimum Education Required 2-Year College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Additional Education Desired Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Required Qualifications Graduate of accredited school of nursing and current licensure as an RN in the State of Ohio. BSN required. Must have a minimum of 18 months nursing experience in an acute care setting. Successful completion of an approved program of Enterostomal Therapy is required within 12 months of hire. Holds current certification as a wound ostomy nurse (CWON) or wound ostomy continence nurse (CWOCN) or obtains within 12 months of hire. Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, quality improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and protocols. Maintains current RN licensure. Meets mandatory education and health requirements. |
