Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Reporting to the Operations Director of School Age and Camp, the Camp Director is responsible for the development, and implementation of high-quality Summer Day Camp at the West Suburban Y, STEAM Camp at Elmbrook Schools, and Wrap Camp at Elmbrook Schools. This position will oversee the implementation and facilitation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, develop, coach, and train staff to ensurethat participant's development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment,and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. Typical work week may include early morning, late afternoon, weeknights, and occasional weekend events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Responsibilities for this position are determined by the school year and summer seasons; during the school year oversees School's Out Fun Days, Preschool, and Family Engagement initiatives, and during the Summer, serves at the onsite Camp Director.
  2. During the school year will support the School Age department in occasional direct service.
  3. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  4. Hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  5. Assists in marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.
  6. Assists in monitoring program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  7. In collaboration with leadership staff, create and maintain lesson plans and activities for Summer Day Camp, STEAM Camp, and Wrap Camp.
  8. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in programs.
  9. Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  10. Secures and monitors transportation for field trips.
  11. Purchases and maintains supplies for all program activities.
  12. Maintain accurate staff and child records at all times.
  13. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  14. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Support Campaign.
  15. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  16. Participate in branch, Association and program cabinet meetings as assigned.
  17. Responsible for strict adherence to all Association policies and procedures as well as State of Wisconsin licensing rules. Conducts annual review of those policies and procedures.
  18. Be a champion for overall branch membership goals, retention, and satisfaction.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.
  20. Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Bachelor's degree in education, social work, recreation, or related field.
  3. Minimum of one-year related experience working with school-aged children.
  4. Minimum of one-year supervisory experience required.
  5. Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising activities.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  7. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  8. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  9. CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  10. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
  11. Must have a current driver's license and be able to travel to multiple work sites during a workday.
