What does the Senior Director of Bioinformatics and Data Strategy do?

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Senior Director of Bioinformatics & Data Strategy to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will lead the development and execution of bioinformatics strategies, harnessing data from various clinical sources, bioinformatics, and machine learning techniques to derive actionable insights that will shape the company's future products and services. The Senior Director will work closely with senior leadership, scientific and technical teams, and external stakeholders to drive innovation in our data-driven solutions and ultimately contribute to advancing healthcare outcomes


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Vision & Strategy Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive bioinformatics and data strategy for the organization, focusing on the integration of clinical, omics, and other relevant data sources to support company goals.
  • Data Integration & Machine Learning: Oversee the collection, management, and integration of diverse data sources (clinical, genomic, proteomic, etc.), applying advanced bioinformatics methodologies and machine learning to derive actionable insights.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing bioinformatics team, fostering a culture of innovation, scientific excellence, and collaboration. Recruit top talent to strengthen the department.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including data scientists, engineers, product teams, clinicians, and healthcare partners, to ensure alignment of bioinformatics strategies with business needs.
  • Clinical Outcomes Focus: Design and lead efforts to leverage clinical data for the development of predictive models and tools that can support patient outcomes, clinical trials, and decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional Engagement: Work with product development, clinical teams, and data engineers to ensure the effective translation of bioinformatics insights into real-world applications.
  • Continuous Learning & Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in bioinformatics, clinical data analytics, and machine learning technologies, incorporating them into the company's strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Strategy & Reporting: Develop the technology roadmap and regularly report to the executive team on bioinformatics and data analytics progress, ensuring goals are met and risks are mitigated.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Best Practices: Ensure that all bioinformatics processes, data handling, and analytics adhere to regulatory standards and ethical best practices.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • Minimum seven (7) years experience
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for large-scale data storage and computing.
  • Experience in managing clinical trials or health outcomes studies using bioinformatics and machine learning techniques.
  • Publications or presentations in top-tier journals and conferences related to bioinformatics or clinical data.
