Job Description

Summary: Responsible for material receipt and shipment including receiving and final inspection.

Reports to: Supervisor or Manager

Direct Reports: Not Applicable

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience: Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience and or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities: Inspects raw materials, materials in process and finished products. Checks product dimensions against print dimensions. Delivers and receives products. Prepares products for shipment (Palletizing, crating, shrink wrapping, etc.) Provides weight and dimensions per request. Unloads items, verifies quantity and condition and signs if acceptable. Performs final visual and mechanical inspection on products. Marks material identification to comply with special requirements, including serialization. May file, grind and or clean products to remove or explore minor defects. Inspection tolerances are generally 1/32" but frequently checks to .001". Judgment is required in making measurements and acceptance of products for proper appearance of assemblies and specific conditions of welds to meet ASME requirements and special surface finishes. May review products with customer representatives. Advises production of out of tolerance conditions and the requirements to rework. Recommends disposition of defective products for salvage or scrap. Weighs and identifies scrap. Operates a forklift when necessary. Uses standard close tolerance measuring tools. Provides records as required on paper or computer. Uses a personal computer to input and retrieve data. Types bills of lading on existing forms. Contacts truck lines for pick up, using lists and instructions. Keeps area clean and organized.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
