The Division of Student Affairs comprises over 30 departments, each responsible for providing various student support, services, and educational programs accessible to the university community. Job Duties |
The Career Counselor will advise students on their career aspirations and goals, and counsel on career readiness topics. This position will collaborate across Student Affairs and with Academic units in the delivery of career programs to advance career readiness and assist recent graduates with transition into professional roles. The Counselor will be responsible for promotion of Career Services and work to increase engagement among students, staff, and faculty via workshops and written materials. Additional responsibilities include administration of career-related assessments and reviewing the results of these assessments. The Counselor will plan, develop, and facilitate presentations/opportunities to participate in career development for classes, and student organizations as well as coordinate with employers to deliver development opportunities. Other duties include representation of Career Services at divisional and university events, serving as a point of contact with oversight of data collection via surveys and assessment methods, and develop tools to identify and strategies to address trends in career development and Career Services programming. This position may carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Career Services or designee. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
- A master's degree in higher education, student affairs, career counseling, or related area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of job market trends, occupational, career and employment information sources.
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Two years of full-time experience providing career counseling, career coaching, and career advising or related student services experience in a college/university setting.
- Ability to interact with student, staff, and faculty populations.
- Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, academic personnel, employers, and alumni.
- Experience and proficiency with incorporating the use of technology to deliver services.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills preferred.
