DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Provides direction and assistance to faculty, residents, and department staff in the standards of medical record documentation, auditing charge capture and coding of professional charges, and provides reimbursement analysis to appropriate departments. Acts as liaison person between third party payors and assigned departments in order to resolve audit discrepancies.

Audit department billing operations and prepare an annual audit report for department's review. Communicates problems identified during audits in the methods of charging, coding, or lack of documentation in order to proactively resolve future problems and recover chargebacks. Regularly review routine reports to determine deviations in reimbursement procedures and appeal underpaid claims.

Reviews fees and codes and other procedures related to clinic encounter forms in order to streamline process for correcting or updating charges and codes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in health or business related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Three to four years of supervisory experience and directly related experience involving physician billing procedures is preferred.

Certified Procedural Coder is preferred.
