Summary

Responsible for providing legal support to the City Attorney's Office for prosecutorial efforts and supporting litigation related to criminal misdemeanors, upholding city ordinances, and other legal proceedings, including but not limited to assistance in legal drafting and research.

Salary: Depneding on qualifications and exprience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Support attorneys in prosecutorial efforts, including drafting complaints, reviewing evidence, and coordinating with law enforcement.

  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery responses, affidavits, and other legal documents.

  • Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings by organizing case files, summarizing depositions, and coordinating witnesses.

  • Maintain case files and ensure proper documentation of legal matters.

  • Assist in responding to public information requests, as well as compiling relevant records.

  • Provide administrative and legal support to City departments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field or paralegal certification from an accredited institution.

  • Prior experience as a paralegal in a law firm, government agency, or corporate legal department.

  • The ability to obtain a CJIS background clearance.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred.

  • Two or more years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in municipal law, litigation, or prosecutorial support.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of legal research methods and legal terminology.

  • Familiarity with Texas municipal law, court procedures, and rules of evidence.

  • Strong ability to draft and organize legal documents with attention to detail.

  • Ability to conduct research and summarize findings in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple cases and deadlines.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Paralegal certification from an accredited program preferred.
