PRIMARY FUNCTIONS This is responsible professional work pertaining to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Engineering Department's data, mapping, and information workflows. This position serves as a critical technical and analytical resource within the Engineering Department, driving innovation in the management of geospatial and engineering data. It includes the design, development, and optimization of data systems and workflows to support infrastructure planning, resource management, and decision-making. Responsibilities extend to integrating data across platforms, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and enhancing interdepartmental collaboration.
The role includes identifying and adopting emerging technologies and methodologies to improve the accuracy and accessibility of the department's data assets. Additionally, this position acts as a liaison between technical staff, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment between data solutions and organizational objectives. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the City Engineer or appropriate designee and is reviewed through conferences and observation of results.
Hybrid remote work options for some aspects of the work may be available once work routine are established. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in data science; geography/geospatial science, engineering, mathematics/statistics, or related field. At least one to five years of experience in data science, GIS systems, project management, engineering, or related field. Or, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a General Fund, "Tested" position. This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. Bargaining agreements available to review HERE. General Funded hires into this class are not covered by Social Security and will not pay Social Security taxes. They instead participate in the City Pension; the employee contribution rate is 10% of pay. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a pre-employment background check, (2) a pre-employment physical examination, including pre-employment drug screening accordance with the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy*, and (3) a 90-day probationary period.
