About the Department:

The Office of Annual Giving generates annual financial support for academic programs, student scholarships and special campus initiatives. Funds are raised through telephone, direct mail, digital, and micro-campaigns. Annual Giving is responsible for alumni donor participation, which is a campus priority. The Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations division is a comprehensive development and alumni relations enterprise with a staff complement of approximately 125 FTE. Functional units within Advancement include development/fundraising, alumni relations, donor relations and stewardship, advancement communications, special events, gift processing, research, prospect management, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, information systems and management, and infrastructure services. Advancement and Alumni Relation's mission is to build strong, lifelong relationships with George Mason University's alumni and constituents, while matching their philanthropic interests with the university's aspirations and priorities. The division is committed to serving the needs of the university, our alumni, and the greater community by providing access to quality education and lifelong learning. About the Position:

Working with the Constituent Giving and Annual Giving teams, the Constituent Giving and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator will support a year-round stewardship program to retain annual giving donors and inspire their continued philanthropy toward the George Mason community. This position works in an office setting. The coordinator will analyze giving data and assist with stewardship communication.

Responsibilities:

Assists with stewardship communications



  • Collaborates with the Constituent Giving Team to refine, implement, and refresh existing stewardship pieces, including but not limited to language for special communications and recognition for new donors and consecutive annual giving donors, recognizing donor behavior;
  • Produces and distributes stewardship communications, including but not limited to evaluating data, procuring donor/impact stories, and creating digital content, for our annual giving stewardship campaigns in coordination with Advancement Communications;
  • Identifies and recommends new and creative opportunities to steward annual giving donors;
  • Works with the Engagement Officers to create customized acknowledgements for leadership annual giving donors;
  • Creates and executes special solicitations appropriate to overall annual giving strategies;
  • May support a specific donor group's activities based on level of giving and giving history; and
  • Designs and maintains the stewardship for donors of special projects and solicitations.


Data management and Reporting



  • Works with large data sets and generates analytical reports that inform the office on year-to-year and year-to-date donor retention and giving performance;
  • Assist the Director of Annual Giving in providing data points to establish data-driven fundraising goals, objectives, strategies, schedules, and analysis of results for each element of the annual giving program;
  • Pulls and prepares stewardship reporting for all annual giving stewardship initiatives and campaigns;
  • Manipulates donor data to prepare sophisticated segmentation of direct marketing and volunteer lists, ensuring high personalization while maintaining data integrity;
  • Analyzes data regarding annual giving programs and past giving trends to provide analyses of program results and plan for advanced segmentation;
  • Compile and manipulate large data sets for analysis to inform stakeholders on campaign performance, donor performance, giving behaviors, and more;
  • Perform Project Management for data extraction and analysis projects;
  • Collaborate extensively with the Strategic Advancement Systems team leads to ensure successful projects and optimized use of resources;
  • Prepare analytical reports and develop data visualizations using best practices and adhering to Mason branding guidelines;
  • Present findings to stakeholders directly;
  • Contributes to research on alumni/donor engagement, movement, and other important donor outcomes; and
  • Evaluate options and make recommendations to business processes to gain efficiencies and enhance performance.


Performs other related duties as assigned



  • May be required to take on additional work as needed to ensure smooth operations;
  • Seeks out opportunities to improve office operations and make recommendations for their implementation; and
  • Demonstrates ability to take initiative along with following through on specific requests.

Required Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365, specifically including Teams, Word (mail merge), and Excel (pivot tables);
  • Ability to work effectively with others both in the department and to external colleagues;
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately; and
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently; and
  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Affinaquest or similar.
