Summary:
Under general supervision but according to established policies and procedures dumps linen deliveries clean linen and picks up soiled linen an assists the Washroom Aide.

Responsibilities:
Delivers large exchange carts of clean linen to designated inpatient and other areas. Returns used exchange cart to the Linen Assembly room.

Picks up soiled linen from laundry chutes in various areas of the hospital using large carts and delivers full carts to the Laundry Room.

Assists with unloading of soiled linen cart off the affiliate delivery trucks.

Accurately records soil sort cart weight by affiliate.

Loads soiled linen bags onto the soil sort lift. Operates the same lift to transfer soiled linen to above conveyor.

Washes each soiled cart emptied using the automatic cart washer.

Dumps/Empties linen bags full of soiled linen onto the soil sort conveyor. Operates the conveyor to control volume passing through the soil sort line.

Manually unloads 600 pounds of sheets from washers to avoid tangling in the baskets (lays sheets as flat as possible). Also unloads linen items using washer to turn out the linen into the dryer slings and manually separates linen between dryer slings into empty slings when slings become full while unloading the washer.

Cleans lint baskets on dryers and drain screens in the trough under washers.

Uses electrical hoist systems to lift dryer loads to dryer.

Hangs full dryer bags on storage rails using the hoist system.

Dries specific linen items on specific formulas using personal computer pad on each dryer. The Washroom Aide will monitor the dryer personal computer pad screen and become familiar with the temperature reading in order to maximize drying efficiency.

Accurately records all dryer loads onto a log for each dryer.

Transports linen via basket to the laundry finish area. Consolidates near empty linen baskets into other near empty baskets freeing up additional baskets and space. Returns empty linen baskets to the washroom. Cleans the bottom of finish baskets free of debris.

Maintains and utilizes equipment in a clean and safe manner.

Uncrates new linen from boxes and places same linen into linen stream via the soil sort lift and conveyor.

Moves boxes of new linen to storage using flat trucks or hand trucks.

Performs the work of Laundry Aides I as determined by the Group Leader Supervisor or Manager.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

No formal training required but the ability to follow instructions is necessary.

Ability to read and write English.

EXPERIENCE:

One month on-the-job training to learn the operation of dryers and other miscellaneous equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical ability to lift heavy loads of wet and dry linen and to operate industrial size washers and dryers.

Exposure to lint extreme temperatures of hot and cold in the work area with continuous standing walking lifting and carrying/pushing.
