The Optics group at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging is searching for a Research Technician to join our team. In this role, the selected candidate will be involved in running near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) experiments using various diffuse optical devices in human projects conducted both within our lab at Charlestown Navy Yard and in patients at MGH and BWH hospitals.
Our methods are unique, and therefore all new staff will receive comprehensive training in them. Candidates with skills and competencies that demonstrate their ability to quickly learn these methods will be considered strong candidates.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a translational neuroimaging lab, developing and utilizing non-invasive optical methods to assess brain health. Our lab consists of faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and research assistants from diverse backgrounds, including Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, and Biology. Moreover, many of our clinical projects involve daily interaction with MDs, nurses, and hospital staff. Capitalizing on this diversity, our lab actively innovates in several areas. We develop cutting-edge NIRS instrumentation, maintain software for NIRS data analysis, explore novel biomedical applications, and conduct pioneering research across multiple domains.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Biology required

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scheduling and running experiments
  • Maintaining instrumentation used during experiments
  • Setting up and cleaning up after experiments
  • Transferring data to Martinos server computers
  • Presenting data at internal meetings
  • Troubleshooting problems during measurements
  • Processing data
  • Recruiting research subjects for various projects
  • Managing IRB protocols
  • Overseeing LabArchive and RedCap documentation
  • Extracting metadata of consented subjects from Epic
  • Training new personnel on NIRS and systemic physiology measurements

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Working knowledge of clinical research protocols
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks independently


EXPERIENCE:

New graduates with some lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technicial I position outlined.

WORKING CONDIDTIONS:

WOrk will take place in a research laboratory located in the Charlestown Navy Yard.
