The basics of this position:

The English Department/District ESL Program at STLCC is seeking a full-time continuing ESL Faculty Instructor to begin August 2025. The primary location will be at the Forest Park campus, but the position may require assignments at other college campus locations as well. Preference will be given to those with community college experience in teaching English to adult multi-lingual learners. The desired candidate will have a Master's degree or higher in TESOL, TESL, Applied Linguistics or a related field. The desired candidate will be confident using technology and practice a variety of teaching techniques. The new faculty member will have experience teaching academic writing at several precollege levels, low intermediate to advanced grammar, and pronunciation/speaking and listening classes. The successful candidate will be able to meet students where they are and guide them to the next level of English instruction in all four skill areas.

What you'll do:



  • Instructors are responsible for instruction, grading, record keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional obligations. Instructors should expect to meet all deadlines and to regularly use standard software, including Microsoft Office 365 suite, as appropriate. Instructors must conduct all activities with appreciation and respect for diversity of people, learning styles, and views.

    In addition to providing excellent instruction, all faculty to adhere to the following specific requirements:
    * Maintaining the appropriate number of office hours at times of day convenient to students;
    * Providing meaningful, timely responses and feedback to students' work and questions;
    * Meeting all department and college deadlines;
    * Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and reporting attendance as required;
    * Keeping careful grade records throughout each term in Canvas;
    * Reporting both midterm and final grades in Banner Self-Service for Faculty;
    * Attending scheduled faculty meetings and training sessions;
    * Successfully completing policy related tutorials;
    * Checking messages and college voice mail accounts on a timely basis;
    * Responding to messages and requests from students and administration with the 24 hours immediately following receipt; and
    * Complying with all provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).


Education, experience, and other requirements:

Requires a Master's degree in TESOL, TESL, Applied Linguistics or a related field with experience teaching academic English.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Prefer a minimum of 18 Graduate credits or a Master's in English, Rhetoric, or a related field.
* Prefer Community College Teaching Experience
* Prefer experience teaching immigrant and refugee students.
