The Position
Job TitleAccounts Payable Manager
Job Description
SUMMARY This position is responsible for supervising the accounts payable department, which consists of monitoring all accounts payable activities and strategically developing the department. The position is responsible for building and maintaining a strong accounts payable team. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Manages all bank accounts payable personnel on an administrative level including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching and discipline.
- Oversees execution of all critical Accounts Payable functions, including invoice processing and allocation, electronic payments, checks, outage corrections and ensures adherence to all FDICIA controls, as well as internal policies and procedures.
- Responsible for vendor management oversight in the AP area and annual 1099 distribution
- Researches accounts payable issues and provides problem solving, and support to other operational staff.
- Ensures a backup is in place for all functions critical to the department.
- Creates new accounts payable policies and maintains existing policies.
- Participates in the month-end close process, ensuring all operating expenses have been properly accounted for. Ensuring the accounting for prepaids, fixed assets, and accrues for incurred but not paid expenses.
- Oversees implementation of new technology and processes. Makes recommendations for and implements system and process efficiencies and/or conversions.
- Works with leadership to define departmental/staff goals and develops strategic direction for the department
- Assists in high level Accounts Payable research, reports, projects, and audits
- Provides exceptional customer service, collaboration, and partnership with community bank presidents, corporate department leaders, and other bank staff
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as requested by management.
- Implements methods to improve department.
- Attends regular meetings with other members of the Accounting and Finance departments.
- Willingness to learn and grow through one-on-one training, classroom training and other opportunities provided by the bank.
- Participates in various teambuilding activities.
- Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures.
- Dresses professionally.
- Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, general business or related subject preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in accounts payable and 2 years of management or supervisor experience required.
Technical/Functional Competencies
- Excellent organization skills and self-starter
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with Jack Henry or similar AS400 software a plus.
- Experience with Banktel or similar accounts payable software a plus.
