The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Columbia University Facilities and Operations supports the core educational and research mission of the University by maintaining a safe, beautiful, and functional campus environment. We perform the regular services and repair work needed to maintain a clean, attractive, and environmentally sound environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Columbia University. Reporting to the Director, the Manager of Facilities, Undergrad Residential Brownstones will be a vital part of the team dedicated to creating a conducive living and learning environment for Columbia University's undergraduate student residents.

Responsibilities



  • Oversee the day-to-day building operations associated with the Brownstones and other non-Res Halls, and off-campus buildings.
  • The manager will play a key role in ensuring each building Supers support staff maintains the highest levels of Operational functionality and efficiency within their respective residential buildings.
  • Coordinate with the building Supers all maintenance and repair activities, conduct regular inspections, and address any issues related to living conditions.
  • Collaborate with the Housing team to provide timely student notification on maintenance or repair work.
  • Oversee trade contractors, ensuring their work aligns with the highest standards of safety and quality.
  • Directly responsible for Maximo CMMS utilization, ensuring work is properly documented, assigned, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee and coordinate with the building Supers to ensure the safe and reliable daily operation of their residential facilities while promptly addressing any issues that may arise. This includes coordinating preventive maintenance schedules, responding to emergency repairs, and managing resources efficiently.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety and compliance, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the facilities team.
  • Collaborate with other departments to optimize facility performance and enhance the overall living experience for the student residential community.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as needed. The position may require 24/7 availability based on campus needs for emergencies or other large campus events.

    • Responds to emergencies and shutdowns, both during and outside regular shifts.


  • May be assigned tasks beyond the residential portfolio as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience are required. At least four (4) years of field experience.
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated supervisory experience of union/non-union staff is required.
  • Strong understanding of the various systems throughout a facility, including HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Lighting, etc.
  • Computer literacy and experience working with spreadsheets are required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines, engineering standards, and compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations.
