CRANE OPERATOR-A

GENERAL FUNCTION: The crane operator is responsible for the safe operation of a hydraulic and/or crawler crane. Hand levers and foot controls are manipulated to raise and lower the crane boom and load line, and to steer and rotate the chassis while moving structural components and materials within the shipyard. Job orders are compiled from the leaderman and operators must constantly be responsible for attending to hand signals for guidance. Crane operators may also assist in the maintenance of their crane/mobile equipment and will participate in doing some of their own rigging.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

Move structural components and material within the shipyard.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of hand signals given by riggers in the movement of structural components or material. Knowledge of the workings of their crane; raise and lower boom, hand levers and foot controls. Knowledge of the lifting chart and how to read it.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: A minimum of one year experience in the operation of hydraulic/crawler crane and other mobile equipment.
