What you'll be doing...

Verizon Consumer Risk Management & Compliance (RMC) is responsible for overseeing Verizon policies, processes, people, and systems and partnering with business leaders to identify and mitigate financial, operational, legal, regulatory, and reputational risks facing the business unit. RMC is filling a Consultant position for oversight of Marketing & Product, including Verizon's financing of device purchases (the DPA Program). The Consultant is part of a team that will create and use risk dashboards, report queries, and other tools to identify and reduce emerging threats to the program.

The Consultant will work with the Director to manage and assess program risks through a compliance plan, oversight and monitoring. The role will require collaboration with partners across the business to find and address system gaps, process gaps, and complaints, improving processes that help expand our overall compliance. We are seeking an analytical, critical thinker to support a team responsible for using data mining results, statistical analysis, and other techniques to assess the effectiveness of controls, identify root cause of issues, and formulate improvement recommendations for senior management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing a compliance framework to monitor, assess, and remediate risks.
  • Working closely with the RMC Business Intelligence (BI) Team to help build and validate investigative reports to assess operational effectiveness and system controls.
  • Reviewing marketing and customer communications to approve content and ensure that all necessary UDAAP protections are included.
  • Working with business partners to develop training and reference documentation and monitor training completion rates for Verizon representatives.
  • Ensuring that Verizon is operating in accordance with relevant regulations including the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Military Lending Act (MLA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), CAN-SPAM Act, and others.
  • Collaborating with business partners, technology teams, and other peer teams to improve controls and build new capabilities to adapt to the evolving needs of the company.
  • Developing partnerships with the business and other risk organizations, including Legal, Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, and Ethics to ensure consistent addressing of issues.
  • Assisting in mitigating control gaps and repairing controls that are not functioning as intended. Assisting in driving the automation of controls to improve financial performance and transactional accuracy.
  • Communicating timely and accurate information regarding findings and improvement recommendations to management.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations communicating risks mitigated, and the potential impacts of unmitigated risks to management.

You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.

  • Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong documentation, planning, work prioritization and organizational skills.

  • Experience creating presentations, process flows and reports.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain confidential and complex issues.

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite for analytics and presentation.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Criminal Justice, Math, Data Science or Information Systems; or equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of statistics, reporting, and analytical tools (i.e.: Teradata / SQL, Tableau, Cognos, Idea, Excel, etc.) with the ability to perform in-depth analyses of large datasets to identify activities that require compliance investigation.
  • Experience working on compliance matters related to consumer protection, customer clear disclosure, CFPB regulations.
  • Experience driving complex solutions and analytics to provide ongoing and automated monitoring of key risks.
  • Experience formulating, affecting, interpreting, and implementing policies and processes to ensure a strong control environment.
  • Experience leveraging auditing principles and methods to evaluate policies, processes, and systems to identify business risks and control gaps.
  • Project management experience with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently leveraging organization and time-management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain confidential and complex issues and make recommendations to leadership.
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, on multiple assignments, with strong attention to detail.
  • A Professional certification (CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, PMP).
