POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Manager of Tax Compliance performs a variety of professional accounting duties related to the preparation of annual information and tax returns tangible personal property tax declarations federal and state tax agency correspondence and providing support when needed for non-patient billing and employee expense reimbursement activities. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Under guidance of the Manager of Tax Compliance is responsible for preparation of all external tax compliance reporting for Brown University Health (Brown Health) and its affiliates including Federal tax Forms 990 990-T 941 1099 1120 1065 4720 720 and FINCEN114 as well as timely remittance of income sales and payroll taxes. Responsible for coordinating scheduling of tax return data entry by accounting staff -Preparation of quarterly estimated and extension tax payments -Responsible for preparation of real and personal tangible property tax returns for various Brown Health entities filed with various cities and towns within Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Responsible for communicating with practice managers to ensure timely payment of quarterly tangible tax bills. -Assists in the response and resolution of Federal and State income tax payroll tax sales tax and excise tax correspondence and notices. -Assists with ensuring system-wide compliance with all requirements of Internal Revenue Code Section 501(r)- Regulations for Charitable Hospitals. Duties include maintaining accuracy of each hospital*s Financial Assistance Policy (FAP) and FAP-related documents as well as being involved in the preparation in each hospital*s Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation strategy required to be completed/updated every three years. - Upon completion of the employee benefit plan financial statements coordinates with the Manager of Tax Compliance and Brown Health Benefits department as well as Brown Health*s external pension administrator and investment management representatives as needed in order to prepare Form 5500- Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan for timely submission. -Acts as a tax resource for various Brown Health departments to provide tax related advice research and support for all relevant tax issues as they arise. -Works on additional projects as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS: Computer literacy especially in Microsoft Office applications Proven work experience as a tax accountant tax analyst or tax preparer Keen attention to detail Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work accordingly Individual who shows enthusiasm and initiative in their role Ability to collaborate across departments Effective verbal and written communication skills QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION: Bachelor*s Degree in Accounting or equivalent. Level of knowledge of accounting practices equivalent to Certified Public Accountant (CPA). CPA license is preferred but not required. QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years progressively more responsible professional tax and/or general accounting experience. Experience in automated complex accounting environment required health care environment preferred.
