LOCATION: This role is a traveling position. You may work on various project sites across the US. Per diem will be provided for those willing to travel and work onsite. ABOUT THE JOB The Tepa Companies are seeking a Senior Welder who performs welding tasks on piping and plate within petroleum operations facilities. Additionally, this role performs or assists with tasks related to welding such as fit-up, preparation, repair, inspection, and post-weld preparation. As required, the Senior Welder assists with general site work such as loading and unloading equipment and materials, site clean-up and preparation, mobilization and demobilization to and from the job site, scaffolding erection, general tank construction tasks, and other duties as assigned. Job Functions:
- Adhere to and ensure strict compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Execute precise, defect-free welds that consistently pass advanced nondestructive testing methods.
- Apply advanced welding techniques to complex, critical, or high-stakes projects, ensuring the integrity and quality of all welds.
- Lead and execute fit-up and weld preparation activities, ensuring that all components are precisely aligned and meet project specifications before welding begins.
- Lead the assembly, installation, and repair of piping systems, ensuring all components meet the highest standards of quality and functionality as per design specifications.
- Utilize advanced fabrication techniques to create custom pipe fittings and components to meet unique project needs.
- Properly prepare and pre-treat materials through clamping, cutting, and applying chemical solutions where necessary, ensuring the preparation process is efficient and meets specification requirements
- Oversee post-weld activities, including cleanup, inspection, and necessary repairs
- Demonstrate mastery in multiple welding techniques, including TIG, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, across various metals.
- Perform high-precision welding and produce efficient, high-quality welds with minimal rework, adhering to the project's schedule and ensuring a high level of productivity without compromising safety or quality standards.
- Conduct thorough inspections of welds, verifying the integrity, smoothness, and functionality of welds while identifying defects such as cracks, porosity, and undercuts, and take corrective actions as necessary to ensure they meet or exceed.
- Assist in the development of welding maps and layout plans for complex projects, ensuring efficient weld execution.
- Ensure welding equipment and tools are properly maintained, calibrated, and ready for use at all times, minimizing downtime.
- Provide progress reports to management and project stakeholders, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and any potential issues that may impact the project timeline or quality.
- Facilitate clear and proactive communication with the Field Foreman to address any potential issues, challenges, or changes to the work scope, providing solutions to mitigate risks and delays.
- Assess project specifications to determine the appropriate tools, materials, and welding methods, ensuring that the most effective and efficient approach is selected for each unique job requirement.
- Maintain and manage welding supplies, equipment, and tools, ensuring all items are properly serviced, calibrated, and in optimal working condition for ongoing and future projects.
- Interpret detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to determine pipe routing, component placement, and system requirements.
- Assist in the development of comprehensive weld maps, contributing valuable insights to the pipefitting team for layout and weld execution plans, ensuring all components are aligned to specifications.
- Strictly observe all safety protocols and regulatory requirements on the job site, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel and full compliance with relevant industry standards and best practices.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- High School diploma or GED
- Documentation of at least 12 years of relevant welding experience
- Must have experience as a pipe welder utilizing multiple weld processes
- Must have a minimum of 8 years' experience in the API construction/repair industry
- Must be able to pass a 6G weld test utilizing SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes
- Must be able to pass 2, 3, and 4G plate welding tests
- Must be able to perform both stick and tig welds on both carbon and stainless-steel pipe
- Must be able to utilize large weld rods (3/16" minimum) in all positions and in an effective and efficient manner
- Must be able to maintain a 95 - 100% pass rate on all welds requiring radiographic examination
- Must be able to fit all types of standard appurtenances
- Must be able to utilize automatic cutting torch for such tasks as cutting the slot in the tank shell to receive a secondary bottom
- Must possess advanced knowledge of automatic welding equipment to include the ability to operate and repair this type of equipment
- Must be able to effectively utilize an arc gouge and hand torch
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions
- Must have a working knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards
- Must be able to troubleshoot and have a strong attention to detail
