Job Summary

The Office of the Executive Associate Vice Chancellor (EAVC) for Research is one of three units under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Research: animal care, research administration and central services (the administrative units), and research development services - including all organized research units, special research programs, other centers/institutes/programs, and the research core facilities program. These units include over 1,000 faculty and staff who foster research that spans multiple disciplines, departments, schools, and colleges, and include internationally renowned initiatives.

The Chief of Staff supports the EAVC develop programs and/or manage projects/special projects as delegated by the EAVC, coordinate research misconduct inquiries and investigations, organize communication with internal and external stakeholders, and perform other logistical duties.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related areas and/or a combination of relevant experience in an academic office or Office of Research.
  • Three to five years leadership, project management, and/or research misconduct experience in research administration.
  • Experience managing highly complex and critical projects and leading projects of significance requiring facilitation and collaboration with representation across organizational functions.
  • Experience supporting the development of frameworks for policy and administrative changes and developing strategies for change management to remove barriers to goal achievement.
  • Experience managing conflict and skills necessary to bring parties with disparate views toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skills to analyze and evaluate data, provide sound recommendations, and create reports for executive-level review.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain professional, collaborative working relationships with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders, including but not limited to, faculty, executive management, senior academic and administrative officers, staff, students, consultants, vendors, and/or other constituents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • Five years or more leadership, project management, and/or research misconduct experience in research administration.
  • Experience in the development, implementation, maintenance, and communication of SOP's, and/or other accountability metrics and strategies.

The Office of Research fosters research across disciplines by enhancing the research experience through effective stewardship of resources, policies, compliance, and expertise, and by developing tools and educational programs as the responsible stewards of the campus research enterprise. The UC Davis research enterprise achieved $1 billion in extramural funding in fiscal years 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Work Environment
