JMT is seeking a Construction Manager to be responsible for managing multiple new construction projects for a Higher Education client in Stephenville, TX. The CM will interact with University management, CM at Risk and Architect to provide QA/QC observation, daily reporting and full-time on site presence for JMT.

Background and experience with Higher Education is highly preferred and construction experience in commercial/industrial non-residential vertical type projects is essential. We're looking for a long-term fit that will grow with the Facilities PM/CM group in Dallas/Fort Worth or other regions with JMT presence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, building occupants, architects/engineers, and contractors
  • Manage and coordinate inspection staff
  • Manage project schedule from inception to close out
  • Participate in project job-site meetings
  • Review contractor work in place to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Review and approve contractor monthly requisitions and invoices
  • Efficient change order management and cost control
  • Report on project issues and provide status updates
  • Perform other duties as may be required

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective leadership skills for managing and mentoring field staff
  • Ability to take charge and effectively manage contractors to meet project schedule
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, prefer 10HR OSHA Safety card
  • The ability to work well with others, and willingness to learn in a team environment
  • Ability to evaluate contractor provided construction CPM schedules, including logic and sequencing

Required Experience

  • Minimum of ten years of construction experience serving as a Construction Manager, Construction Management Representative, Owner's Representative or Construction Superintendent/PM/APM/PE
  • Experience with renovation projects in Higher Education buildings with high end finishes and building system repair and restoration that involved the active management, oversight and/or inspection of multiple construction trades and close coordination with the Client/Owner on construction issues
  • Knowledge and experience working with Higher Education Project Managers/CORs on project schedule, requests for information, submittals, and field observation reports.
  • Experience using Procore and Autodesk construction management software to communicate construction progress and process documentation.
  • Experience using MS Excel or related cost estimating software to develop Independent Cost Estimates for change order negotiations.
  • Experience reviewing architectural and engineering designs, contractor shop drawings and/or vendor specifications and plans, or similar, to determine constructability and practicality of proposed work and adherence to established standards and requirements


Preferred Experience



  • 10+ years of non-residential construction experience and/or:
  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Science, Architecture, or Construction Management, or some college/university courses.
  • (Optional) Engineering in Training (EIT), Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour construction safety training
  • Experience on Higher Education projects
  • Familiarity with Procore and other PM software
  • Experience working for or with commercial general contractors


Working Conditions

Work is performed in both a field office and field (construction) environment. Time allocation will be 100% site-based. Field work requires climbing, walking and standing at a construction site and may be outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.
